Homebrew installs the stuff you need that Apple (or your Linux system) didn’t. Homebrew installs packages to their own directory and then symlinks their files into /usr/local. Homebrew won’t install files outside its prefix and you can place a Homebrew installation wherever you like. Trivially create your own Homebrew packages. It’s all Git and Ruby underneath, so hack away with the knowledge that you can easily revert your modifications and merge upstream updates. Homebrew formulae are simple Ruby scripts. Homebrew complements macOS (or your Linux system). Install your RubyGems with gem and their dependencies with brew. Homebrew Cask installs macOS apps, fonts and plugins and other non-open source software. Making a cask is as simple as creating a formula. -

OpenUEM is an open-source inventory tool that allows you to manage your IT assets thanks to its agents and a clean and concise web user interface. OpenUEM is based on open-source or free tools that are battle-tested to avoid re-inventing the wheel. It allows you to keep track of your IT assets using agents installed on your Windows, Linux (Debian and RedHat based distributions) and MacOS endpoints and provides features like remote file browsing, getting Windows Update and Antivirus status, deploying software via WinGet/Flatpak/Brew, remote assistance with VNC or RDP… OpenUEM server components can be installed in a humble desktop machine with Windows 10 Home, Debian/Ubuntu Linux or any Docker powered environment. If you run a medium-sized or large company, you can use beefier machines and share the load as it has been designed to have distributed components. It can be classified too as a Remote Monitoring and Managing (RMM) or as a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) tool. -

Debreate is a utility to aid in creating Debian (.deb) packages. Currently it only supports binary packaging (note that the term "binary package" is used loosely, as such packages can contain scripts & non-code items such as media images, audio, & more) for personal distribution. Plans for using backends such as dh_make & debuild for creating source packages are in the works. But source packaging can be quite different & is a must if you want to get your packages into a distribution's official repositories or a Launchpad Personal Package Archive (PPA). The latter from which Debreate is available. -
