Open Source Forth Software Development Software

Mecrisp - A family of optimising native code Forth implementations for MSP430, ARM Cortex M, RISC-V RV32IM(C), MIPS M4K and FPGAs.

Thinking Forth captures the philosophy of the language to show users how to write more readable, better maintainable applications. This project makes the book available in electronic form (LaTeX and PDF).

ANS Forth for Win32 and Linux/x86 (used to compile the following SF projects: acWEB, acFTP, acFreeProxy, acSMTP, Forth-Script)

4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports about 95% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation, pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, enumerations, structures, suspended execution, recursion, include files, etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, BASIC interpreter, line editor, preprocessor, compiler, decompiler, C-source generator, a virtual machine, and a multitasking environment.

Win32Forth is ANS compatible, Forth language application development system with many tools; Interactive console, integrated extensible debugger, a GUI file editor, hypertext rendering, hyperlinked source files. VIEW <word-name> to explore the many files

colorForth is, in Chuck Moore's own words: "A dialect of Forth that uses color to replace punctuation. Includes its own operating system. Produces extremely compact programs. Instant compile from pre-parsed source."

Ficl is a lightweight, embeddable scripting language designed to be incorporated into other programs, and especially embedded systems that may have memory and OS constraints. Applications include scripting, hardware bring-up, rapid prototyping, and system extensions. Unlike Lua or Python, Ficl acts as a component of your system - you feed it stuff to do, it does the stuff, and comes back to you for more. You can export compiled code to Ficl, execute Ficl code from your compiled code, or interact. Your choice.

The Portable Forth Environment implements the ANSI Forth Standard, it is fully written in C, the newer version has a module concept, and it is fully multithreaded. Autoconf used. Tested in embedded environments.

Mops is a full-featured, object-oriented stand-alone programming language for Mac OS X. Its interactive development environment provides for fluid and productive programming by allowing quick testing and modification of small code segments.

MinForth V3.4 is a classic Forth system with command-line interface. Development resource requirements are minimal. A source text editor and a C compiler are sufficient. By design no toolchain is required to adapt or rebuild MinForth. A complete rebuild takes only few seconds. Current sources are for Windows and Linux (32-bit or 64-bit). MinForth primitive definitions are written in mixed Forth and C language and are transpiled to pure C code. Main but not exclusive application for the transpiler is to build the MinForth V3.4 high-level Forth compiler. MinForth V3.4 is widely conformant to the Forth-2012 draft standard and passes the usual test suites. Feedback and bug reports are welcome per - Usenet forum https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/comp.lang.forth - email to minforth@gmx.net

amforth is an extendable command interpreter running on AVR ATmega and TI MSP430 microcontrollers. The Risc-V and ARM architectures are ascending. Turnkey actions for IoT workloads are possible as well. The command language is close to the Forth 2012 standard.

Tachyon was originally developed for the Parallax Propeller 8-core MCU because I need to do more and faster, and within the the limited memory, in order to produce firmware for my commercial embedded hardware products. When the much vaunted successor, the P2 was introduced, then Tachyon was upgraded and also built into the P2 ROM as TAQOZ. Source code can be sent or pasted from the PC terminal at high speed (921,600 default) without any terminal delays and compiled into RAM ready for backup into SD or Flash. TAQOZ RELOADED, the full version of Tachyon for the P2 can be booted from SD cards or Flash and has all the tools needed to develop and test code interactively on the target MCU. Please browse the wiki pages for howtos and information on all matters regarding Tachyon/TAQOZ and the P1 and P2. There's even a Tachyon layer that runs on Mecrisp on the RP2040 too and now the ESP32-C3 as TachyonESP which uses the Arduino IDE to build the kernel.

FTH provides running stand alone Forth scripts like Ruby etc. and using Forth as an extension language to your application.

See Wiki for usage and more details. Originally, xplgraph.scr library for DXForth was written to work on DOS systems only enabling point-and-plot graphics on VGA-compatible graphics devices. DXForth port to the 8-bit CP/M operating system lacked similar capability. The aim of this project is to provide an replacement of the original xplgraph.scr library, exposing roughly the same API, enabling graphics in DXForth running under CP/M. This library is written using DXForth's inline assembly (with all of its cryptic syntax) and uses CP/M's GSX interface. Using this interface enables graphical output to either local screen or remote devices connected through a serial port (like Tektronix 4010 text-and-graphics terminal emulator running on PC). Limitations: - No colors, no shades of gray. Color 0 is blank, others are mapped to solid pixels. - No READPIX function. - PALETTE, SETPAL and SOUNDX are dummy.

A virtual machine providing a dynamic, portable assembler; JIT compilation; C bindings; and Forth semantics.

Rainbow Forth is an implementation of the colorForth dialect of the Forth programming language designed to run under Linux or Windows.

Wisp is a small Scheme-like language designed to be easily used in various structured data processing tools. The accent is on simplicity, automatical generatibility, and efficiency. (Currently on long hiatus. Gauche has similar goals and is maturer.)

guiForth is a customized version of pForth that provides bindings to the FLTK library. The initial goal is to create a software development system for the Agenda VR3 PDA, but guiForth should be portable to any platform that has FLTK.

Compiler for a Forth-like language to make small binaries that use system calls instead of the C library

Forth compiler for the Compiled Virtual Machine

Calforth is a variant of the forth computer language. It will run as a forth interperter, as well as strictly compile an executable. Version 1.3 includes support for the 8051 processor and includes a processor emulator as well.

This project originally was about a megaman clone called "Game Developer Man". Game Developer Man, the game, has long since tanked. However this project has moved on to the KRGP.

This is fast 32bit FORTH system for PalmOS 2.x/6.x having the following features: Programming directly on PalmOS device, Full ANS 94 compatibility, Fast 32bit and 64bit arithmetic, Multitasking kernel, Supporting PalmOS from 2.0 to 6.0

This project provides a compiler that compiles ML into code suitable for execution on small targets, including embedded ones. The compiler generates both C and Forth.
