Founded in 1997, FlightGear is developed by a worldwide group of volunteers, brought together by a shared ambition to create the most realistic flight simulator possible that is free to use, modify and distribute. FlightGear is used all over the world by desktop flight simulator enthusiasts, for research in universities and for interactive exhibits in museums. FlightGear features more than 400 aircraft, a worldwide scenery database, a multi-player environment, detailed sky modelling, a flexible and open aircraft modelling system, varied networking options, multiple display support, a powerful scripting language and an open architecture. Best of all, being open-source, the simulator is owned by the community and everyone is encouraged to contribute.

Simutrans is a cross-platform simulation game where players try to successfully manage transportation systems between places by land, air, and water for passengers, mail, and goods. Planes, ships, trains, trams, trucks, buses, or monorails are at your disposal, but factories operate based on contracts and passengers can only travel to their set destinations.

Speed Dreams is a Motorsport Simulator featuring high-quality 3D graphics and an accurate physics engine, all targeting maximum realism. Initially forked from TORCS, it has now reached a clearly higher realism level in visual and physics simulation, thanks to its active development team and growing community. It mainly aims to implement exciting new features, cars, tracks and AI opponents to make a more enjoyable game for the player, while constantly pushing forward visual and physics realism. It is also intended for any research, study or teaching activity, around physics and AI, thanks to its GPL V2+ license, and the clear and modular architecture of its C/C++ code base.

Rigs of Rods is a 3D simulator game where you can drive, fly and sail various vehicles using an accurate and unique soft-body physics engine. Since 2014, the development continued at https://github.com/RigsOfRods/rigs-of-rods UPDATE: 10/30/2016: removed opencandy installers, replaced with zip files.

Stellarium renders 3D photo-realistic skies in real time with OpenGL. It displays stars, constellations, planets, nebulae and others things like ground, landscape, atmosphere, etc.

sims3tools provides a set of tools for the Sims3 modder, based around the s3pi library. It includes: a package editor (s3pe), which allows most useful resources to be edited; an Object / CAS Part cloner (s3oc) for creating a base for modifications; a sims3pack packer/unpacker (s3su), which simplifies handling the content of these files; a string table editor (s3se) for allowing string table resources to be efficiently edited; plus a number of additional utilities. A 3rd-party tool to edit user files for the game FasterThanLight. With this, you can unlock any or all ships and achievements in your user profile, or tweak most aspects of saved games: crew, systems, weapons, fires, breaches, etc.

"Sims 3 Package Interface" provides a core library of portable code that "understands" Sims3 game packages. Note that (with some minor tweaks) the core library code also understands other game package formats (e.g. SimCity Online, Sims4). Along with the core library are a number of "wrappers" that provide the main part of the project. These handle deserialization and serialization of data within the package (or any other source). Further tools (not supplied here) can use the core library and wrappers to manipulate the data content of package files. Note that development on this library and wrappers provided here has now finished.

Oolite is a free and open source space trading and combat simulation game where you are the pilot of a spacecraft capable of interstellar travel. Inspired by the classic 8-bit game Elite, it features many similar aspects of gameplay. This was the official home of Race Into Space, the computer version of the Liftoff! board game by Fritz Bronner. It was developed by Strategic Visions and published by Interplay as a disk-based game in 1993 and a CD-ROM in 1994. This location houses the latest release of the game, v. 1.1 released in 2013. OpenTTD is an open source transport simulation game based on the popular game Transport Tycoon Deluxe by Chris Sawyer, with several additions. OpenTTD is as close to the original as you can get, but has been extended with plenty of great features. These include bigger maps (up to 64 times bigger than the original), stable multiplayer mode that allows for up to 255 players in 15 companies, in-game downloading of heightmaps, AIs, scenarios, and so much more.
