PEBL (Psychology Experiment Building Language) is a system designed for creating psychology and neuroscience experiments and tests. It is cross-platform, with the intention to run the same experiment, unchanged, on Linux, Windows, and Macintosh PCs.

blavaan is a free, open-source R package for Bayesian latent variable analysis. It relies on JAGS and Stan to estimate models via MCMC. The blavaan functions and syntax are similar to lavaan. The development version of blavaan (containing updates not yet on CRAN) can be installed via the command provided in the documentation. Compilation is required; this may be a problem for users who currently rely on a binary version of blavaan from CRAN. The blavaan package depends on the lavaan package for model specification and for some computations. This means that, if you already know lavaan, then you should already be able to do many things in blavaan. In particular, many blavaan commands add the letter “b” to the start of the lavaan command. It is also sometimes possible to use a lavaan command on a blavaan object, though the results may not always be what you expect.

Python and pygame cross platform program to exercise the brain with the intention of enhancing useful field of view, also known as speed of responsiveness. This yields benefits in driving, motility, and even depressive symptoms, as described in research papers of randomized, double blind trials. Whether ufov exercise the brain to yield those benefits is unknown, since there are no research studies using it. The research is conducted with a commercial product that I have not seen or used. I used the description of what useful field of view is supposed to do to create this program for experimental purposes. I notice personal changes from using the program, but that is only anecdotal evidence. I was especially struck by the research that found a significant decrease in dementia for those who used such a program to exercise their brain. For the purpose of policy simulation in coupled social-ecological systems (e.g. energy supply), a credible modelling of actors – especially citizens – and their decision processes is needed. This requires a framework capable of handling high numbers of heterogeneous agents (several hundreds of thousands). LARA (Lightweight Architecture for boundedly Rational Agents) meets these requirements and fills the gap between frameworks without built-in psychological foundations and full-fledged cognitive architectures which are both not viable options in this context. LARA provides prefabricated components of an agent’s decision process like perception, memory, and different modes of decision making. These components are psychologically plausible, i.e. based on appropriate psychological results and theories. Moreover, interfaces for basic learning and social influence are available.

This Matlab toolbox runs a GLM on graph theoretic network properties in brain networks.
