Open Source Assembly Music Players

LAME is an educational tool to be used for learning about MP3 encoding. The goal of the LAME project is to improve the psycho acoustics, quality and speed of MP3 encoding. Note: we provide source code only!

Mikmod is a module player and library supporting many formats, including mod, s3m, it, and xm. Originally a player for MS-DOS, MikMod has been ported to other platforms, such as Unix, Macintosh, BeOS, and Java(!!)

MMC is a commander-style media player for Windows, with native, hw accelerated video playing and translucent gui. Mpxplay is a console audio player for DOS and Win32 operating systems. x264vfw, x265vfw and xAV1vfw are video for windows encoder and decoder codecs, useful with VirtualDub.

ASAP (Another Slight Atari Player) plays and converts 8-bit Atari music (*.sap, *.cmc, *.mpt, *.rmt, *.tmc, ...) on modern computers and mobile devices.

Designed for the Sony Playstation 2, Argon, allows you to play multimedia files like XVID, DivX, and MP3. It is based off of the Simple Media Player (SMS) and offers an interface similar to that of the Playstation 3/PSP.

IMYplay is a player for iMelody (IMY) ringtones / files (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMelody). IMYplay can use the following outputs to produce sound: 1. The Allegro game library (http://alleg.sf.net), 2. SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer; http://www.libsdl.org), 3. ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture; http://alsa-project.org), 4. OSS (Open Sound System), 5. Libao (http://xiph.org/ao), 6. PortAudiov19 (http://www.portaudio.com), 7. PulseAudio (http://www.pulseaudio.org), 8. JACK1/JACK2 (http://jackaudio.org), 9. GStreamer (http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org), 10. PC-Speaker (at least Linux and DOS). It can also: - convert IMY ringtones to MIDI files, - convert IMY ringtones to WAV files, - write raw samples to an output file, - execute an external program on each note. MplayerXP is branch of well known mplayer (http://mplayerhq.hu) which is based on new (thread based) core. Main goal of this project is to achieve smoothness of video playback due monotonous CPU loading.

XBMP (XBox Media Player) has been discontinued as replaced by XBMC (xbmc.org)

XM player library written in assembly language. It's perfect for size- and speed-critical applications, click free, highly reliable, easy to use, open source, multiplatform. It is able to play even damaged and non-standard XM tracks.

A native Commodore 64 program that can play SID files from the High Voltage SID Collection (HVSC). It will run from any C64 friendly device. SID songs will be played back at correct speed on both PAL and NTSC computers.
