This project is to create an updated version of abc2midi, a tool to generate MIDI files from abc music notation. As well as improving the code, the intention is to integrate features from and improve compatibilty with the abc 2.2 standard.

abcCairo is a project to create a Cairo backend for abcm2ps, enabling it to generate output in the formats supported by the Cairo library; PNG, SVG and PDF. abcm2ps is a command line program written by Jean-François Moine which converts abc music notation to music sheet in PostScript or SVG format. The project is composed of two layers. The first layer is an artificial intelligence engine, partwriter, that writes music based on some heuristic. The second layer is the layer that defines the heuristic. The definition of this heuristic defines the type of music that partwriter will create. Currently (December 2012), the deepest layer is more or less complete. The author is now writing second layers of interest, namely species counterpoint heuristics according to Fux's Gradus Ad Parnassum.
