Open Source MS-DOS Multimedia Software

MP3Gain analyzes and losslessly adjusts mp3 files to a specified target volume. It does not simply do peak amplitude normalization. Instead, it performs statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.

MMC is a commander-style media player for Windows, with native, hw accelerated video playing and translucent gui. Mpxplay is a console audio player for DOS and Win32 operating systems. x264vfw, x265vfw and xAV1vfw are video for windows encoder and decoder codecs, useful with VirtualDub.

Mikmod is a module player and library supporting many formats, including mod, s3m, it, and xm. Originally a player for MS-DOS, MikMod has been ported to other platforms, such as Unix, Macintosh, BeOS, and Java(!!)

Hide In Picture is a program that allows you to conceal files inside bitmap pictures, using a password. The pictures look like normal images, so people will not suspect there is hidden data in them.

DOSMid is a real mode (16-bit) midi player for DOS. DOSMid supports a variety of MIDI synthesizers, and has very low hardware requirements.

Audio Compressor (command line) - Utility to be used for audio (dynamic) compression of WAV files. The process works as a real-time 2-band feedback sidechain compressor having threshold and knee optimized to match the best as possible to the full scale range. The "feedback speed" (attack), the "recovery speed" (release) as well as the maximum gain limit can be adjusted by the user. This compressor was designed to give a "FM style" output, making it suitable to prepare music tracks for listening in noisy environments (vehicles) or to modulate a LPFM transmitter.

ANSiMat is a graphical viewer of ANSI art files. It can also be used to convert ANSI (or plain ASCII) files into regular (BMP, TGA, PCX...) graphic files, or into animations (FLC). Altough not initially designed for this, ANSiMat can be successfully used as an ASCII art viewer, or even simple text files viewer. ANSiMat is available for Linux, Windows and DOS. ANSiMat supports also modem emulation speed, therefore it can be used to display ANSI animations.

isolabel is a program that allows you to change volume label in ISO 9660 image file after it was already created. Moreover, you can specify ISO 9660 and Joliet volume label separately, taking advantage of fancy names in Joliet together with simpler, but longer name in ISO 9660; something that tools like mkisofs/genisoimage does not allow you to do in standard compliant way. This program is written to have minimal software dependency, and work on all platforms.

GLIMPSE is a image manipulation package, developed for novice users.It supports file formats like BMP,PCX and TGA of various color depth. The striking feature of GLIMPSE is that it requires very less amount of resources, as it can be run even in DOS.

This is a tracker (http://tinyurl.com/ye3ypcy) for MS-DOS that uses the OPL-2 chips present in AdLib compatible cards to generate sound using FM synthesis. It was mainly developed using Borland Pascal (with some assembler bits by Keywiz) in a 386dx with a Sound Blaster Pro card, and even though it wasn't 100% finished, it was functional enough to create 3 demo songs which are included in the package. I originally made this back in 1994 when I was 17 and active in the argentine demoscene, but I will not be developing this any further, so I'm posting it here in case anybody is interesting in continuing it.
