FarPlaneTwo is an experimental open-source Minecraft mod that introduces a Level-of-Detail (LoD) terrain rendering system designed to dramatically extend how far players can visually see across the game world. Instead of rendering distant terrain using the same detailed chunk system as nearby areas, the mod generates simplified representations of terrain that require far fewer resources to display. This approach allows players to view landscapes at extremely large distances while maintaining acceptable performance levels. The project aims to support render distances far beyond the limits of the standard Minecraft engine, potentially reaching hundreds of thousands or even millions of blocks. By creating progressively lower-detail versions of terrain farther from the player, the mod can display the shape and structure of distant regions without fully loading those chunks. -

Purpur is a drop-in replacement for Paper servers
Purpur is an open-source Minecraft server software built as a fork of the Paper server platform, designed to provide extensive configurability and gameplay customization for server administrators. It functions as a drop-in replacement for Paper, meaning existing servers can switch to Purpur without major changes while gaining access to additional features and configuration options. The project focuses on allowing administrators to modify gameplay mechanics, behaviors, and rules that are normally fixed in standard server implementations. Through a wide set of configuration settings, server operators can adjust how mobs behave, alter game mechanics, or enable experimental gameplay features that are not present in vanilla Minecraft. Purpur inherits performance improvements and plugin compatibility from the Paper ecosystem while adding its own enhancements and customization capabilities. -

Iris
A modern shaders mod for Minecraft compatible with existing OptiFine
Iris was created to fill a void that I saw in the Minecraft customization and graphical enhancement community: the lack of an open-source shaders mod that would let me load my favorite shader packs on modern versions of the game, while retaining performance and compatibility with modpacks. OptiFine, the current dominant mod for loading shader packs, has restrictive licensing that firmly stands in the way of any sort of tinkering, and is fairly notorious for having compatibility issues with the mods that I like. It's also mutually incompatible with Sodium, the best rendering optimization mod in existence by a large margin. ShadersMod was never updated past 1.12, and it lacks support for many of the many modern popular shaderpacks. So I created Iris, to try and solve these issues, and also address many other longstanding issues with shader packs. I first and foremost develop Iris to meet my own needs of a performance-oriented shaders mod with good compatibility. -

That learns transferable skills throughout its existence, and applies them to solve new, challenging problems? Project Malmo sets out to address these core research challenges, addressing them by integrating (deep) reinforcement learning, cognitive science, and many ideas from artificial intelligence. The Malmo platform is a sophisticated AI experimentation platform built on top of Minecraft, and designed to support fundamental research in artificial intelligence. The Project Malmo platform consists of a mod for the Java version, and code that helps artificial intelligence agents sense and act within the Minecraft environment. The two components can run on Windows, Linux, or Mac OS, and researchers can program their agents in any programming language they’re comfortable with. -

We also have projects integrating ViaVersion to run on Fabric, Forge, Bungee, Sponge, or as a standalone proxy to join from basically any client version on any server version from the past decade. Note that ViaVersion will be able to run best on either Paper servers or through ViaFabricPlus due to having direct access to client/server state and more extensive API. -

A Forge implementation of the Sponge API. SpongeForge uses Gradle as its build system. The repo includes the Gradle wrapper that will automatically download the correct Gradle version. Local installations of Gradle may work but are untested. To execute the Gradle wrapper, run the ./gradlew script on Unix systems or only gradlew on Windows systems. In order to build SpongeForge you simply need to run the gradlew command. On Windows systems you should run gradlew instead of ./gradlew to invoke the Gradle wrapper. SpongeForge is the implementation of the Sponge API on the Minecraft Forge platform. Recommended for running plugins together with Forge mods. The purpose of the Sponge project is to create a plugin development framework for Minecraft: Java Edition. BlueMap is a program that reads your Minecraft world files and generates not only a map, but also 3D models of the whole surface. With the web app you then can look at those in your browser and basically view the world as if you were ingame! Or just look at it from far away to get an overview. BlueMap comes as a Spigot/Paper or Sponge Plugin, as a Fabric or Forge-Mod and you can also use BlueMap without any Server from the Command-Line as a standalone tool. If installed as a Plugin/Mod, BlueMap renders asynchronously to your MinecraftServer-Thread. This means at no time it will block your server thread directly. So as long as your CPU is not fully utilized, your server should not be slowed down while BlueMap is rendering. -
