This is achieved using a modified subset of the GNU Classpath project to create a minimal JavaSound environment for gervill. The gervill synthesizer itself has also been modified to reduce the amount of JavaSound code. The modified gervill code also offers key API improvements, and retains compatibility with desktop java. This project is published in the interest of compliance with the GPL, but any interested party should be aware it inherits a great number of undiagnosed bugs from the parent projects and is only suitable for playing vetted midi files. -

An Arduino board, Spectra Symbol linear potentiometer, and USB/MIDI adapter are used to create a MIDI controller with continuous pitch (as opposed to discrete notes as played on a piano). The resulting instrument works with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. It has been tested successfully with Acoustica Mixcraft and GarageBand. Additional features have been added such as buttons to temporarily switch octaves, and a knob which adjusts how quickly the pitch is tuned. -
