The Japanese to English Dictionary is written in java, and so will require that you have the JRE installed prior to its installation & use. It is a hobbyist project of mine intended to address my admittedly narrow needs, and so will fall short of yours. If you have any suggestions for improvements, please let me know! This open source application would not be possible without the Japanese-English dictionary and kanji files assembled by Jim Breen; it would also have taken a great deal more effort without the BaseX API and the izPack installer. Currently only works for Windows, and is not yet fully tested. If you encounter problems, please report them. -

Kana Learning Game
A game to help learn Japanese hiragana and katakana
This is a game I made a few years ago to help myself learn Japanese hiragana and katakana. Although my studies in the Japanese language never took off, this certainly helped, and the few friends I shared this with have said the same. So I thought I would share it with everyone! The way it works is simple. You are shown a syllable in the top left corner, and you must click on the button that has the corresponding hiragana or katakana. Comes with various different modes, for different challenges. You can now control the game with the arrow keys of your keyboard. Also, not reflected in the screenshots above, there is also a button that will highlight the correct answer for you if you are feeling stuck. When you use this button, your current guess will not count towards your score in any way. If anybody finds any bugs, please let me know, and I will do my best to fix it in a timely manner! -

This tool was created for students who want to learn kanji and words at the same time in the most optimal fashion possible. Based on a user-provided list of kanji, this tool will generate a list of words that are associated with each kanji and ensure that each word consists only of kanji that you have already studied up to that point and kana. In addition, words are sorted by frequency and no duplicate words are used. For example, assume that 径 is the 882nd kanji in the user-provided kanji list and that we are using the default options. The words that will be generated for 径 will only contain kanji from the 1st kanji in the list to the 882nd kanji in the list. -
