Open Source C++ Installers

NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System) is a professional open source system to create Windows installers. It is designed to be as small and flexible as possible and is therefore very suitable for internet distribution. Being a user's first experience with your product, a stable and reliable installer is an important component of succesful software. With NSIS you can create such installers that are capable of doing everything that is needed to setup your software. NSIS is script-based and allows you to create the logic to handle even the most complex installation tasks. Many plug-ins and scripts are already available: you can create web installers, communicate with Windows and other software components, install or update shared components and more.

Proton is a tool for use with the Steam client which allows games which are exclusive to Windows to run on the Linux operating system. It uses Wine to facilitate this. Most users will prefer to use Proton provided by the Steam client itself. The source code is provided to enable advanced users the ability to alter Proton. For example, some users may wish to use a different version of Wine with a particular title. As the new Steam Play is still in Beta, it is recommended that you opt into the Steam Client Beta for the latest features and fixes. Proton works best with the latest graphics drivers. For some cutting edge games and graphical features, you may need drivers newer than what your distribution ships. Install and play games! We strongly recommend that most users use the production build of Proton.

Snappy Driver Installer is an application for installing/updating drivers on PCs running Microsoft Windows using driverpacks or included folders with drivers. It can be used to install drivers on newly assembled PCs at places where Internet isn't available. Users can also use the software to keep their drivers up to date.

JSmooth creates standard Windows executable files (.exe) that smartly launch java applications. It makes java deployment much smoother and user-friendly, as it is able to find and run Java VMs by itself, or help the user get one if none are available.

Squirrel is both a set of tools and a library, to completely manage both installation and updating your Desktop Windows application, written in either C# or any other language (i.e., Squirrel can manage native C++ applications). Squirrel uses NuGet packages to create installation and update packages, which means that you probably already know most of what you need to create an installer. Windows apps should be as fast and as easy to install and update as apps like Google Chrome. From an app developer's side, it should be really straightforward to create an installer for my app, and publish updates to it, without having to jump through insane hoops. This project has moved to http://wixtoolset.org. The WiX toolset is a set of tools that builds Windows installation packages from text source code. The toolset supports a command line environment that developers may integrate into their build processes to build setup packages for the Windows platform.

m23 is a free software distribution system (license: GPL), that installs (via network, starting with partitioning and formatting) and administrates (updates, adds / removes software, adds / removes scripts) clients with Debian, (X/K)Ubuntu and LinuxMint. It is used for deployment of Linux clients in schools, institutions and enterprises. The m23 server is controlled via a web interface. A new m23 client can be installed easily in only three steps. Group functions and mass installation tools make managing a vast number of clients comfortable. The integration of existing clients (with .deb-based distributions) into the system is possible, too. Client backup and server backup are included to avoid data loss. With the integrated virtualisation software, m23 can create and manage virtual m23 clients, that run on real m23 clients or the m23 server. Scripts and software packages (for installation on clients) can be created directly from the m23 web interface.

At this point this project is mainly wpkg which is a replica of dpkg and apt-get that works under Microsoft Windows and Unices. Since version 0.7.0 it works very nicely as it includes most of the important functionality of dpkg (i.e. most everything except dselect functions.) Otherwise, the Unix GNU Windows is expected to be a large set of packages that wpkg can handle. Packages of all the software available under MinGW and GnuWin32 so you can painlessly build a complete Unix like environment under Microsoft Windows.

GNUpdate is a set of libraries and tools that provide universal package management on Linux systems, allowing any distribution to install packages from other distributions, as well as updating the system with the latest versions of installed packages.

UEFI GPT fdisk is a port to UEFI of the famous GPT fdisk partitioning tool, see http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ . Now since this program runs directly under UEFI shell you don't need to *boot* the system to convert/edit partition tables.
