PROPER is a library of routines for the propagation of wavefronts through an optical system using Fourier-based methods. It was developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for modeling stellar coronagraphs, but it can be applied to other optical systems were diffraction propagation is of concern. It is currently available for IDL (Interactive Data Language), Matlab and Python (3.x). It includes routines for generating complex apertures and obscurations and aberrations (Zernike & PSD-defined). It includes a model of a deformable mirror for wavefront control. The routines perform near and far field propagation with automatic selection of propagators. The latest version is v3.3.1 (IDL & Matlab) and v3.3.4 (Python). Please report any bugs using the Tickets tab.

p3d is a general data-reduction tool for use with fiber-fed integral-field spectrographs (IFSs); although, the spectrum viewer works with spectrum data cubes of any origin. The tool is built about the proprietary software IDL (Harris/EXELIS; see http://www.harrisgeospatial.com), but can be used without any license. Most slowly running loops are implemented in parallelized C (OpenMP).

The Airborne Data Processing and Analysis (ADPAA) package is an open-source software package containing a collection of programs and scripts to process and analyze data from in-situ instruments deployed on airborne platforms. The ADPAA package was started to process data on the North Dakota Citation Research Aircraft but has been used to process data on many airborne platforms. OVATION Prime is a seasonal model of the diffuse, monoenergetic, proton, and wave aurora. The OVATION Prime model is written in IDL and was developed at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU-APL) by Patrick Newell and co-workers. This current version includes updates to the retrospective and real time components, several efficiency enhancements and a user configuration as implemented by Rob Redmon and Janet Machol of NOAA. This is a community model. Users are invited to suggest and provide improvements. Documentation includes a model description and instructions for running the software. EBF, which stands for Efficient Binary Format, is a binary file format for reading and writing binary data easily. Reading writing routines are currently available in C,C++,Fortran,Java, Python, IDL, MATLAB. A program called ebftkpy which has a set of utility functions to work with the .ebf files , e.g., viewing the contents and getting a summary, is also provided. The EBF specification is designed to be concise and easy to understand to make it easier for others to write their own code if needed. It is also designed to simplify the programming of input output routines in different programming languages. In a nutshell an EBF file is a collection of data objects. Each data object is specified by a unique name and a single file can have multiple data objects. Each data object is preceded by a meta-data or header which describes the binary data associated with it. Among other things, this header allows the files to be portable across systems with different endianess.

IDLSave is a python module that allows IDL 'save' files (e.g. .sav files) to be read directly into python without the need for IDL to be installed. IDL variables, including structures and arrays, are converted to the equivalent python types.
