CRGREP searches for matching text in databases, various document formats, archives and other difficult to access resources. A command line tool for name and content text matching in database tables, plain files, MS Office documents, PDF, archives, MP3 audio, image meta-data, scanned documents, maven dependencies and web resources. CRGREP will search resources within resources of any arbitrary combination or depth, so text within a document within a zip archive, and so on. This program is a GUI for the command line tool grep and pdfgrep. Pdfgrep search text in multiple PDF files and grep can serach text in multiple text files. You can use regular expressions for the search (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression). This GUI and the command line tools work without indexing. The following options are used: -i (ignore case) and -F (fixed strings), -n (Print page number or output lines) and -H (Print the file name for each match) from the command line tool. The -r option will be done by the program itself. Performance: This GUI works well when searching in several hundreds of documents (depends on the speed of your computer and the length of the documents). This single-file project transcodes VCF/VCARD files into JSON for easy filtering with grep. VCARD support is incomplete but can be extended. This project was motivated from recovering contacts backed up from an Android phone in a human-readable yet machine-friendly format.

The findstr is searching the words in the text and binary files in several codepages. The famouse 'grep' is very slow and get a lot memory for large binary files without ends of lines - findstr is fast and light, but it doesn't use regular expressions.

Scat is a powerful and useful tool to print out files content either as a raw text or hexdump (hexadecimal dump). It also has wide set of options to manipulate an output, which makes scat useful with cascade piping (like find | scat | grep) or debugging

Java regular expression matching

ldif-extract is a small 'grep' like tool to extract and convert data from LDIF files. It could be used standalone or also in a pipe together with other tools like ldapsearch.

mgrep is a command line tool that allows users to search text files for lines matching a given regular expression. It is similar to the well-known Unix utility, grep. As a natural extension to the single-line regular expressions, mgrep is also capable of searching for multiline patterns. mgrep is not a grep replacement, but it is intended to be grep-compatible: implemented options and behavior should be the same as those of grep. mgrep is written in C++ using the Boost.Regex library. A configure/make system is provided for Linux, but its source code should compile on all platforms that have the std and Boost.Regex libraries installed.

rtgrep is a bash script which searches for all files in the current directory or a given base directory which were created/modified within a given time period. The search can be recursive, and you can specify a pattern to be matched in the file contents

This utility will provide grep-like functionality to return multi-line (record) matches for blank-line deliminated files such as LDIF files used by LDAP. A match on any line will return all lines from the previous blank line until the following one.
