My life just got a lot busier; I'd really like a maintainer or two to help. I'm not abandoning JPT, I just don't have a ton of time to put into hacking on it. If you've been learning Ruby and you want to move beyond tutorials and throwaway projects, I'd love to hear from you. I'd be happy to help you gain experience and credibility, if you're willing to help me maintain this project! It's simple to throw a photo on a page and call it a day, but doing justice to users on all different browsers and devices is tedious and tricky. Tedious, tricky things should be automated. Jekyll Picture Tag automatically builds cropped, resized, and reformatted images, builds several kinds of markup, offers extensive configuration while requiring none, and solves both the art direction and resolution switching problems with a little YAML configuration and a simple template tag. -

Problem is it's hard to really own your photos and how they're represented across social media these days, so we set out to make a place for them. You host it yourself, wherever you want (Netlify, Github Pages...), you're in control. Previously the recommended way to install Photo Stream was to fork the repository. In my opinion, this was not really optimal and being a fan of Docker I began working on optimizations to run Photo Stream in a container. That's why configuration has been moved from _config.yml to .env so when switching from the initial repo you will have to set up the .env file accordingly. -

With Draper decorators, you can wrap your models with presentation-related logic to organize and test this layer of your app much more effectively. Imagine your application has an Article model. With Draper, you'd create a corresponding ArticleDecorator. The decorator wraps the model, and deals only with presentational concerns. In the controller, you decorate the article before handing it off to the view. In the view, you can use the decorator in exactly the same way as you would have used the model. But whenever you start needing logic in the view or start thinking about a helper method, you can implement a method on the decorator instead. -

GitHub Pages can't run custom Jekyll plug-ins so when generating anchors for your headings (i.e. h1 - h6), you're stuck with JavaScript solutions that will inject anchors. But what if your users don't have JavaScript enabled on their browsers? If you're building a static website, why not make your anchors static as well? GitHub Pages doesn't support custom Jekyll plug-ins, is this plug-in whitelisted? This is all written in Liquid so need for any whitelisting. Worried about how weird or ugly a plug-in's CSS may be? These projects only generate semantically sane HTML for you to style. No need to worry about learning Ruby to edit a plug-in or getting your edits approved.
