Call me a purist, but I was never happy with the graphs produced with existing (free) Java tools. My dream package is lightweight with minimal dependencies, offers clean vector-graphics export and TeX-support for typesetting mathematical elements in axis labels, chart legends etc. This is hard (impossible?) to find and I thus decided to construct my own, mostly from existing code. JChart2D is a easy to use component for displaying two- dimensional traces in a coordinate system written in Java. It supports real-time (animated) charting, custom trace rendering, Multithreading, viewports, automatic scaling and labels. MLPlot is a lightweight plotting library written in Java. It produces vector graphics in the SVG format but can also save EPS, JPG, PNG,..(if convert and inkscape are installed). The goal is to imitate MATLAB's 2D plotting functionality.
