FLAC is a free lossless compressed audio format which supports streaming and archival. The FLAC project maintains the format and provides a reference encoder/decoder and input plugins for several popular audio players.

fre:ac is a free audio converter and CD ripper for various formats and encoders. It features MP3, MP4/M4A, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, and Bonk format support, integrates freedb/CDDB, CDText and ID3v2 tagging and is available in several languages.

Lossless compressor for multichannel 8,16 and 24 bits audio data, with the ability of password data protection. Being 'lossless' means that no data/quality is lost in the compression - when uncompressed, the data will be identical to the original.

Libcddb is a library that implements the different protocols (CDDBP, HTTP) to access data on a CDDB server (http://freedb.org). It tries to be as cross-platform as possible. The initial libary will have a C API.

aTunes is a powerful, full-featured, cross-platform player and manager, with support for online radios, podcasts and CD ripping.

Grip is a GTK-based CD-player and CD-ripper / MP3 encoder. It has the ripping capabilities of cdparanoia built in, but can also use external rippers (such as cdda2wav). Encoder presets are provided for oggenc, bladeenc, lame, l3enc, xingmp3enc, mp3encode, gogo, flac, faac and opusenc. The main developers can be found in #grip on Libera (irc.libera.chat).

Python Audio Tools are a collection of audio handling programs. These include programs for CD extraction, track conversion from one audio format to another, track renaming and retagging, track identification, CD burning from tracks, and more.

RipperX is a GTK program to rip CD audio tracks and encode them to the Ogg, MP3, or FLAC formats. It's goal is to be easy to use, requiring only a few mouse clicks to convert an entire album. It supports CDDB lookups for album and track information.

Videoder is a tool that allows you to search for any video you want using a personalized search engine that combs through different streaming video services like YouTube, Vimeo, and others, so that you can then download them directly to your Android device.

A portable, modular music player and converter using the BASS framework for Windows XP/.../10/11. Kaffeine is full featured Media Player for KDE. It supports all kinds of local and network media and digital video broadcasting (DVB). At the moment Kaffeine can use xine-lib or GStreamer as backend.

Qt based application for GNU/Linux to print lightScribe discs. Labels are stored in easy to understand/edit XML format. You can print CDDB data on labels (see HOWTO in documentation section).

libcdaudio is an unmaintained but portable library that provides wrapper functions to audio CD drives and CDDB and CDIndex database access. cdcd is a commandline CD player using libcdaudio's CDDB and CDIndex functions.

Channel Code Copy of Compact Discs: This project has the goal to archive the complete content of CDs on the channel code layer. Here, the NRZI signal which stems from the laser-pickup of a CD player is recorded directly, providing sort of a pit-land photo of the CD. The resulting image file, in turn, is demodulated and decoded in software, i.e. within a virtual CD player. The digital audio channel code on LaserDiscs and CD Video discs can be handled as well. X-CD-Roast is a flexible frontend for optical disc authoring. It combines command line tools like "cdrecord", "cdda2wav", "readcd" and "mkisofs" into a nice GTK based graphical user interface.

Disc-cover provides an easy way to produce covers for audio CDs non-interactively. It scans audio CDs and uses information from the CDDB or CDINDEX database to build a back and front cover for the CD using LaTeX to produce high quality PDF or PS.

Development of tools for converting various CD images that currently aren't natively supported by Linux CD burning tools, including Discjuggler and Nero.

Zinf is the continuation of FreeA*p and has all the same features as FreeA*mp: MP3, Vorbis, WAV and audio CD playback, streaming (SHOUTcast, Icecast, RTP) support, a powerful musicbrowser/playlist editor, a themed interface and a RMP download manager.

DCue is a command line tool for automatically generating audio cue sheets (.cue files) using the massive release database from Discogs.com to find artist names, track titles, durations and other information via the Discogs API. DCue is equally compatible with Windows and Linux (and probably OS X -- though not officially supported). It has no external dependencies whatsoever.
