Bootchart is a tool for performance analysis and visualization of the GNU/Linux boot process. Resource utilization data and process information are collected during the boot process and can later be displayed in a PNG, SVG or EPS chart.

GRUB 2 works with EFI but there are no menuentries built, os-prober-efi/30_os_prober_efi will fix this. os-prober-efi ist for analyzing/printing the EFI environment. Use os-prober-efi -h for more informations! 30_os_prober_efi ist the grub-mkconfig script (update-grub) and generates for each entry (*.efi) found in /boot/efi/EFI/... a menuentry. You can disable them in "/etc/default/grub". NOTE: /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi is the regular EFI-Loader for Windows! ValDisk is a boot/root floppy set made for low-end machines (laptops) to be put to good use, such as for serial or network clients. It's goal is to run in as little as 4 MB of RAM, therefor it does not use a ramdisk.

eINIT is an Init System for POSIX-compliant operating systems. The primary focus is on speed and modularity and, unlike other init systems, this one can be used in combination with others. Benchmarks suggest that einit is faster than initng and upstart.

This is a branch from the fxload project, originally part of the linux-hotplug SourceForge project which seems to be abandoned. This branch incorporates the patch from Steven J. Magnani that adds support for Cypress FX3 USB 3.0 endpoint to the fxload utility. It has been tested on Ubuntu 12.04 with the FX3 development kit (part number CYUSB3KIT-001). Oddly, as of January 2013 Cypress doesn't include this utility with its (open source) Linux SDK but requires developers to purchase a copy of MS Windows to be able to program the board. This SourceForge project contains no new code.

mbldr is a boot loader which fits into first sector of an HDD (MBR). It allows to choose which partition to boot and is intended to replace an MBR coming with DOS/Windows (fdisk /mbr). It may boot OSes above 1024cyl, Linux/BSD are also supported.

A web based GUI for managing PXE boot and optionally managing DHCP service. Also supports creating and serving Kickstart and preseed scripts. This provides a client install in one click. This is a generic framework created to work with anything that's PXE bootable. Adding new hosts can be done via "PXE enrollment" where the client PXE boots to enroll into OneClickKick. Easily integrated with existing naming sources such as NIS and LDAP for central lookup of host and mac address information. OneClickKIck can also be integrated with FreeIPA (www.freeipa.org) to allow adding and modifying hosts directly in IPA.

Linux-based Network Bootmanager A graphical bootmanager providing OS deployment and repair for Linux, Windows, possibly other operating systems, via PXE and local cache.

Minirighi is a multi-threading open-source operating system written for didactic purpose. It has been written from scratch and it is compatible with POSIX.

Startup Helper lets users choose which programs are launched when the OS boots up. It also allows for waiting periods between launching programs, to prevent programs slowing each other down. During this startup process, the user can control the waiting period through the Startup Helper GUI, pausing the program, skipping a single program, or foregoing the waiting period and launching the next program immediately. This project is made in Java, so it should be multiplatform. However, I've only been able to test it on a Windows XP machine, so please let me know if there are oddities, bugs and/or malfunctions on other platforms.

Boot Integrity Services (BIS) is a CDSA application. BIS adds digital signatures to boot images obtained via PXE and DHCP/BOOTP protocols. BIS includes tools for creating keys, certificates, and digital signatures, and remotely configuring BIS clients.

Cloudium OS is being written in pure ASM. It's designed for speed and ease, having cloud computing in mind. It also is secure (without requiring constant user input like Windows). But, how are we going to do this? Well every os wants/says these kind of things, so to accomplish our goals we follow these simple rules: keep it simple (that's way better then these complex interfaces etc. almost nobody wants), generalize (this makes things easier and more useful without extra complexity) and be inventive (sometimes doing it the classical way just doesn't work). Depinit is an alternative init program that can handle parallel execution, dependencies, true roll-back, pipelines, improved signaling and unmounting filesystems on shutdown. It incorporates ideas from sysvinit, simpleinit, daemontools and make. At present, it is a bit experimental, and requires good knowledge of the initialisation process to set up.
