    A metagenome assembler by reducing microbial community

    Most current approaches analyze metagenomic data with the participation of reference genomes. However, novel microbial communities extend far beyond the coverage of reference databases and de novo metagenome assembly from complex microbial communities still remains a great challenge. Here we present a novel experimental and bioinformatic framework, metaSort, for effective construction of bacterial genomes from metagenomic samples. MetaSort provides a sorted mini-metagenome approach based on flow cytometry and single-cell sequencing methodologies, and employs new computational algorithms to efficiently recover high-quality genomes from the sorted mini-metagenome by the complementary of the original metagenome. ...

    ...The accumulation of mutations may instead be responsible for a "maturation" which may have real physical meaning rather than being an amorphous concept. Scientists such as Donald Williamson and Lynn Margulis have suggested similar ideas but perhaps not going as far as this project assumes. This software converted the Catalogue of Life, catalogueoflife.org, into a gedcom format. It no longer works due to the Catalogue's database format change. This present project extends the gedcom format for use in systematics or species categorization. All named taxonomic levels are assumed to have originally been individual species and the software/database outputs all species as female until hybridization events can be added manually. ...

    The Genomic Epidemiology Ontology covers food-borne disease terms

    ...Terms for these subdomains have partially been implemented in the main file, **genepio.owl**, which imports terms from over 25 OboFoundry.org ontologies. Also we have added a number of terms that so far haven't been covered via OboFoundry. Recognizing that GenEpiO encompasses many domains, we are advocating a consortium approach for enhancing its content via interested parties that need particular domain terminology.
