Everyone can find his/her own way to play it, as a spy or a crafter, mason or paladin, use pets or create diplomatic links with other villages, or just set up an overkill team and assault the enemy palace or the map boss. Rewards and richness can be carried over different maps.

Red Rogue is a side-scrolling roguelike game developed around Flash / ActionScript by st33d. It mixes platforming and roguelike mechanics: players explore, collect loot, fight, jump, etc., in a 2D side-scroll environment, with permadeath or roguelike style progression. The game has been discontinued at some point, with known technical limitations (such as running out of save space in Flash builds) and is now open source. Full source code is available (open source) so it can be studied or ported or modified.
