LZMA is way much slower. However, it compresses backups about 6 times better than LZ4. This is a research project to possible improve compression using LZ77, LZSS or bwt, bwt is used on the bzip2 compression library, the v28 from 04/dec/2022 is the first version to almost beat lzma, indeed it is a tweak of lzma, the decoder for v28 will follow in a few days
