Q&A with Qoppa Software: PDF Studio

By Community Team

SourceForge had an extensive chat with Gerald Holmann, CEO of Qoppa Software to discuss how their PDF editor, PDF Studio, can make editing and processing documents a lot more effective.

Can you tell us about your personal experience in the software industry?

Yes, I graduated in 1990 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I graduated among the top 10 of my Computer Engineering program. I became a consultant for the multimedia industry for a few years. I learned a lot from this period as I had the chance to be exposed to a wide variety of industries and technologies. One of my key projects was designing the first video on demand system for Blockbuster, a system similar to the video platforms we see today such as Netflix and Hulu. Unfortunately, Blockbuster decided to not move forward with the idea.

I stopped consulting when I joined a startup company called Nuesoft Technology as Vice President of Product and Technology in 1998. The product and development team that I led created an online practice management system using Java and RMI, based on the early idea of what is known today as Software As a Service (SAAS). My roles and endeavors at Nuesoft helped me understand the importance of delivering reliable information to end-users. I started Qoppa Software in 2002, a company based on the idea of delivering easy-to-use java tools to create and process PDF documents.

Can you expound more on your company Qoppa Software? What are all the PDF solutions and software products you all offer?

We offer a variety of PDF solutions for all types of users. We offer off-the-shelf solutions for the server side allowing for instance a Fortune 500 Company to automate their document processes on the back-end. We also offer solutions for the desktop and the browser, allowing end-users to view, annotate, or sign PDF documents visually. Finally, we publish our powerful and flexible PDF technology as a Java PDF SDK for enterprises to integrate within their own custom processes and easily add PDF functionality to their own applications and web servers.

Our modular server product, PDF Automation Server offers a rich set of PDF processing functions for different environments and consists of 3 modules: the Rest API Module, the HTML5 PDF Module, and the Workflow Module. The Workflow Module provides an easy drag and drop interface to design and create complex document flowcharts to route and transform documents on the server side that can arrive from various input sources and be redirected to various targets as well. The Web PDF Module can convert PDF documents to HTML5 and serve end-users PDF files directly in the browser for viewing and annotating. Lastly, the Rest API Module provides ways to make simple REST API calls and add PDF functionality to a web application or integrate with 3rd party service.

Our flagship product, PDF Studio, is a multi-functional desktop application for individuals, small businesses and large enterprise organizations to create, view, annotate and modify PDF documents. Since everyone has a need for PDF, it can be used by a large range of users from college students to professionals such as architects, accountants or real estate agents. PDF Studio has greatly improved over the years since it was originally developed in 2007 and has just had another major version update!

Can you provide us more details on the product PDF Studio and its new version update?

Yes, of course. PDF Studio can be compared to Adobe® Acrobat® but offered at a one-time affordable fee instead of a recurring monthly subscription, which we know can be costly in the long run.

There are many different ways to get started using PDF Studio. Users can start off by simply creating a PDF from scratch, converting a file from mostly any format to PDF, or scanning documents to PDFs. PDF Studio comes equipped with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to recognize text from images and convert scanned documents into an accessible electronic document where text can be selected or searched. PDF Studio also comes with great features such as the ability to make annotations and markups to documents. These features are great for architects marking up or measuring drawings or students adding comments to PDF lecture notes. Our PDF editor also allows users to digitally sign documents, create or fill in PDF forms, secure documents with password and permissions, add watermarks, split and merge documents. It also comes with some very advanced features such as preflight, optimization and overlay comparison.

Some of the newest features in this latest update are the Document Session Manager, conversion from PDF to Microsoft Office Word, and the ability to create table of contents from bookmarks. The major new feature this version is the Action Wizard, a tool that allows users to save time by automating sequences of repetitive tasks to be applied to one or multiple documents. This version update also comes with major software improvements that have made our PDF editing application more user-friendly than ever. You can read more details about this new version on Qoppa Software’s PDF blog.

Those features sound extraordinary and vital for anyone in the market for quality PDF editing software. Where can people go to purchase PDF Studio?

PDF Studio is listed on numerous sites across the web but we love for users to visit our website where they can download Qoppa’s PDF editor latest version and find the latest deal to purchase. Users can also find PDF Studio on the SourceForge platform since it comes with great benefits such as visualizing all the features compared to our competitors and seeing how it is ranked, based on actual reviews from our users.
