Interview with CHEQROOM CEO Vincent Theeten

We had a chat with Vincent Theeten, founder and CEO of CHEQROOM, to talk about the company’s mission and growth. Their mission can be summarized in one sentence: CHEQROOM wants to take away the hassle of managing equipment and give creative video teams more time to create great content.

Q: What is CHEQROOM?

Vincent Theeten, founder and CEO of CHEQROOM

CHEQROOM builds asset management software that helps teams keep track of their valuable equipment from anywhere. We want to make it delightfully simple for anyone to keep track of their equipment.

The app is fully equipped with a built-in QR & barcode scanner and works in the cloud, so there’s no need to invest in any hardware. A laptop or mobile phone is enough to get access to smart equipment booking, check-outs, maintenance planning and tons of reporting possibilities.

Q: How did it all start?

The idea of CHEQROOM first sprouted back in 2012 when I was struggling to keep track of equipment as an IT manager. Things always went missing around the office. I saw how other companies were able to perfectly manage an inventory much larger than ours without any hassle and that inspired me to start building my own tool. One thing led to another and only a couple months later, I decided to leave my job and found my own company.

I wanted to create an all-in-one solution in the cloud to replace spreadsheets and let users manage their expensive equipment without any hassle.

Q: Who are your customers?

Over the years, we listened very carefully to our customers and realized that it was better to focus on a niche market rather than trying to serve every single person out there with a generic tool. Today, CHEQROOM is a perfect fit for companies in the AV industry or any company looking for asset tracking software to manage their AV or IT assets.

Our customers are video production and broadcasting companies, equipment manufactures and also schools and universities with an AV department. They include: Fox Sports, Google, Red Bull, DJI, Harvard University, Kent State University and Ohio University.

Q: What will the future bring?

Like I said, we’re really good listeners, so we’re constantly using our customers’ feedback to improve and further develop our app. In fact, we have a couple of really nice features in the pipeline!

As a company, we have been scaling rapidly over the last two years: we went from a team of 5 in a small office to a full scale team of 20! Next year, we’re moving into a bigger office and entering the next phase of growth!
