OpenOffice.org

Apache OpenOffice is a free, full-featured office suite that provides word processing (Writer), spreadsheets (Calc), presentations (Impress), drawing (Draw), a relational database (Base) and a formula editor. It supports multiple languages and common file formats, allowing users to open and edit documents from other major office suites, and bundles essential productivity tools without cost. Limitations include occasional formatting or printing differences with documents created elsewhere, uneven performance and occasional sluggishness (partly due to reliance on Java), and an interface with many options that can feel cluttered compared with more polished commercial alternatives. It’s a practical, cost-free choice for casual users, students and anyone who needs basic office functionality without purchasing commercial software.

Doc Writer: Word Processor

Doc Writer is a freemium, lightweight word processor that opens common document types (ODT, RTF, TXT, DOCX, DOC) and emphasizes speed and simplicity over a full-suite feature set. The free tier offers automatic saving while you work, basic formatting and typeface controls, on-the-fly word count, find-and-replace, and spelling correction, but does not allow exporting or saving final copies. The paid version adds image insertion and editing, table creation and manipulation, exporting/saving in supported formats, and the full feature set needed to produce complete documents. The app is best suited to users who need a fast viewer and simple editor for reading or making small edits; casual or occasional creators who require images, tables, or regular exporting should opt for the premium subscription.

LibreOffice

LibreOffice, developed by The Document Foundation, is a free, open-source office suite providing a set of productivity applications: Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (vector graphics), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing). It supports the Open Document Format and common Microsoft Office formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX), can export to PDF, and handles many legacy formats for broad interoperability. Key strengths include a highly configurable interface, collaboration features, templates and productivity aids, active community-driven development with regular updates, and zero cost. Apache OpenOffice is a comparable free alternative offering a similar set of apps and file-format compatibility.

Microsoft Office 2008 Update

Microsoft Office 2008 Update is a free Office suite application from Microsoft that provides updates and improvements to the Office 2008 suite, including bug fixes and feature enhancements to improve stability and performance.

Read It For Me

Read It For Me, created by Rozga Wojciech, is an Office Suites application distributed under a Full license.

Apache OpenOffice

Apache OpenOffice is a free, community-developed office suite that provides Writer, Calc, Impress, Math, Draw and Base to handle word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, formula editing, vector drawing and basic database tasks. It emphasizes open standards (ODF), supports many file types from other suites, and offers a full set of productivity tools without purchase, though compatibility with some proprietary formats—especially complex or newer features—can be imperfect. Development tends to prioritize stability and security over rapid feature cadence, so releases are less frequent and some workflows can feel slower; the interface is feature-rich and can be overwhelming for new users. Its permissive license, localization support, and no-cost distribution make it a practical choice for students, schools, non-profits, small organizations and budget-conscious users who value standards and broad availability more than immediate cutting-edge compatibility.

Document Writer: Advanced Word Processor

Document Writer is a compact, budget-minded word processor offered as a free download with an optional paid Pro upgrade. It provides essential word processing features—autosave, basic text formatting (fonts, sizes, bold/italic/underline, simple layout), and Find & Replace—while intentionally omitting the extensive advanced tooling found in full-featured office suites. The Pro upgrade enables opening and saving modern and legacy Microsoft Word files (.docx/.doc), while the free version is limited to more basic formats such as RTF and ODT. Because of its lower cost and one-time upgrade option, it’s a reasonable lightweight choice for casual users or basic document editing; power users and teams who need advanced features, collaboration, and integrations will likely prefer a more fully featured office suite.
