Quick summary

Xpadder is a Windows utility that lets you assign keyboard and mouse inputs to gamepad buttons and sticks. It maps controller actions to standard PC inputs so you can use console-style controllers in PC games and other applications.

Supported Windows versions

  • Windows XP (32/64-bit)
  • Windows Vista (32/64-bit)
  • Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
  • Windows 8 (32/64-bit)
  • Windows 10 (32/64-bit)

Cost and updates

Xpadder is distributed as a paid one-time purchase — there’s no recurring subscription. Purchasing a license typically grants access to future releases and software updates via the official download channel.

Safety and download advice

The official Xpadder installer is not known to contain malware. However, some third-party sites offer “free” copies that can be bundled with unwanted software or malicious files. To avoid risks, download only from the official source or trusted sellers and scan installers with your antivirus before running them. The official build does not include ads.

Controller compatibility

Xpadder supports a wide range of gamepads. Examples of compatible controllers include:

  • PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2
  • Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers

It can translate controller inputs into keyboard and mouse events, letting you use many console controllers with PC games that lack native controller support.

How to set up a controller (step-by-step)

  1. Download and install Xpadder from the official site or an authorized vendor.
  2. Launch the program and click the gamepad icon to open the controller menu.
  3. Select New (or the blank controller icon) to create a layout for your device.
  4. In the layout window, import an image of your controller (optional) to make button placement easier.
  5. Use the tabs at the bottom — Image, Sticks, DPad, Buttons, Triggers — to configure each component.
  6. Enable and calibrate sticks by checking the appropriate box and moving the stick as prompted; you’ll see a shaded indicator you can position over the controller image.
  7. Map buttons by pressing a gamepad button and assigning a keyboard key or mouse action to it.
  8. Configure triggers similarly, and repeat for the opposite side of the controller if needed.
  9. Save the profile (use the save icon) so your mappings persist for future sessions.

Creating and managing profiles

  • Create multiple profiles for different games or controllers using the notepad/profile icon.
  • To import a mapping file downloaded from the web, use the Open option and load the file into Xpadder.
  • To paste mapping text copied from a website, use the Paste function in the notepad dropdown, then remember to save the profile manually.

Note: building a full keyboard-and-mouse profile can take time; many users start with community-created profiles to speed setup.

Is Xpadder worth it?

For many users, Xpadder offers excellent value: it’s affordable, lightweight, and supports multiple controllers simultaneously for local multiplayer. If you want a straightforward way to use a variety of gamepads on Windows, it’s a solid choice.
