Overview of XMEye VMS

XMEye VMS is a free desktop application from XMEye that centralizes the cameras on your property so you can monitor them from a computer. The program leverages cloud services and requires a secure account sign-in to give instant live video feeds. It offers default real-time monitoring and supports local recording and playback, though some actions (like saving recordings) require you to be signed into the VMS client.

Compatible hardware and system limits

  • NVRs (Network Video Recorders)
  • DVRs (Digital Video Recorders)
  • IP cameras

The system can manage up to 64 devices at once and works across those device types. Note that adding devices normally requires using each device’s IP address.

Preparation and installation steps

  • Ensure the recorder (DVR/NVR) is physically connected to your router via an Ethernet cable.
  • If the installer is blocked by your antivirus or firewall, allow the app through those protections or temporarily adjust settings so installation can complete.
  • Install the application on your computer, then sign in with your XMEye account to begin configuration.
  • Open the System menu, select Device, then go to Zone List and choose Add Area. Enter a name for the area and confirm.
  • Select the newly created area and use Add Device to include cameras. You can search for devices on the network or add them manually by IP address.
  • Recorded files downloaded from the system are encrypted and can only be opened with the player provided by the application, and saving recordings locally requires that you remain logged into the VMS client.

How to manage and view video

  • Live monitoring is available immediately after devices are added, giving instant access to current feeds.
  • Local recording and video playback are supported inside the client; however, exported or downloaded footage will be encrypted and must be played with the supplied media player.
  • Adding and configuring devices may require some technical familiarity with IP addressing and network setup.

Alternatives and recommendation

  • If you’re looking for another free option, IP Camera Viewer 2 is often suggested as an alternative.

Overall, XMEye VMS is a capable solution for anyone with a property surveillance system who wants centralized management and live monitoring. It simplifies device administration and viewing but can be a bit technical to configure, and recorded video playback is limited to the app’s proprietary player.
