Improve your home internet with the Xfinity app
The Xfinity app is the simplest way to connect an xFi Gateway or a compatible modem/router and configure your home network without a technician. It gives you access to account details, network status, and bill payment — and the app is free to use. You’ll also find Xfinity Assistant inside the app, which provides 24/7 real-time help and guided troubleshooting.
How to activate an xFi Gateway
Some gateways can be set up entirely in the app; however, an xFi Fiber Gateway (Arris X5001) must be activated by a certified Xfinity technician and cannot be enabled from the mobile app.
Steps to activate:
- Create an Xfinity ID if you don’t already have one, then sign into the app.
- If activation doesn’t start automatically after signing in, open the Overview tab, tap the Account icon in the top-left, then choose Devices and select Activate xFi Gateway or Modem.
- Before you begin, check the label on the bottom of your Gateway to confirm the exact model.
Speed checks and network diagnostics
If your gateway supports it, the app lets you measure connection performance and run diagnostics right from your phone.
How to test:
- Open the Connect tab, then tap Internet Health to run speed tests for the gateway and the device you’re using.
- Use the app’s troubleshooting tools when speeds are lower than expected to identify issues and follow suggested fixes.
Network controls and device management
The app gives you broad control over your home Wi‑Fi, even when you don’t have a computer or aren’t connected to Wi‑Fi (cellular data is sufficient).
Key management features:
- Reboot the router, change Wi‑Fi settings, and rename devices on the network.
- View all connected devices, monitor peak data usage by device, and control access or parental settings.
- Operate and manage offline devices directly from the app and access Xfinity Assistant for guided support.
