XDonkey for Mac

Overview

XDonkey is a Mac-compatible peer-to-peer client that links into the MLDonkey multi-network. It remains a practical option for locating a wide variety of files across that network, even though development has slowed. If you want an alternative, eDonkey (Overnet) is a commonly recommended, free choice.

Installation and layout

Installing XDonkey on macOS is straightforward, and most users will find the setup painless. The program uses a tabbed layout to separate areas such as transfers, searches, statistics and commands, keeping each function easy to reach. The visual design looks dated, but the core features continue to operate reliably.

Search capabilities

The search module is flexible: you can specify keywords and filter by media type or file format. Size limits (minimum and maximum) help narrow results so you find exactly what you need. Search results now include a more explicit availability figure (complete source count shown in brackets) and a results filter to refine returned items further.

Monitoring and controls

Download and upload rates are displayed in the lower-left corner of the window so you can keep an eye on throughput. Before starting any transfers, remember to connect (use the Connect control at the top-left) — otherwise downloads won’t begin. Multiple downloads can be selected from the Downloads list for batch Pause/Resume, Delete or Save actions.
