Overview

Worms 2: Armageddon returns the chaotic, turn-based artillery gameplay to iOS, where you command a squad of explosive-minded worms across destructible landscapes. The app retains the series’ slapstick humor and a large arsenal, but the mobile controls and AI balance occasionally undermine the experience.

Game modes and single-player variety

  • Campaign: A traditional series of matches where the goal is to outlast enemy teams and progress through levels.
  • Body Count: A survival-style mode in which a lone worm must fend off endless waves of foes that steadily grow tougher and smarter.
  • Practice Match: A sandbox environment to try out weapons without opponent retaliation.
  • Quick Match: Short, pick-up-and-play battles that focus on eliminating rival teams as efficiently as possible.

Controls and practical tips

  • Weapon targeting: For basic arms, hold your finger on the aiming reticle and drag to set angle and power; for things like airstrikes, drag the reticle to mark the target and then press the fire button.
  • Movement and camera: To move a worm, press and hold either side of the screen; use two fingers to pan the view and pinch or spread to zoom.
  • Jumping and advanced mobility: Tap your worm to hop forward; tap twice quickly to perform a backflip.
Note: The tutorial is useful — the touch controls take time to master. On smaller phones you may experience accidental inputs (for example, jumping onto a mine while trying to zoom), and much of your turn can be eaten up by slowly dragging the reticle. Tablets and larger phones tend to reduce those frustrations.

Armory highlights and team customization

  • Bunker Buster and Poison Strike: newer additions that change tactical options.
  • Holy Hand Grenade and Banana Bomb: classic, over-the-top explosives the series is known for.
You can also create and personalize your squad — pick names, tombstones, and one of many voice sets (ranging from alien-themed lines to a satirical political voice) to add to the comedy.

Multiplayer options

Multiplayer is most enjoyable in person: the game supports Hotseat play (up to four players passing the device) and local games over Wi‑Fi. There is no online matchmaking or internet-based multiplayer.

AI behavior and difficulty

The computer opponents can be inconsistent. At easy settings the CPU sometimes makes embarrassingly poor moves (self-destructing with a misfired rocket), while on other turns it executes improbable, pinpoint attacks that feel unfair. This unevenness makes difficulty tuning feel hit-or-miss.

Presentation: visuals and audio

Worms preserves the series’ colorful, cartoon-style visuals and lively level backdrops. The little animation flourishes — nervous looks, celebratory dances, and comic vocal lines — keep the tone light. Sound design is strong too: weapons have distinctive effects and the voice clips promote the game’s humor.

Final assessment

Worms 2: Armageddon is a faithful, entertaining adaptation that excels in local multiplayer and retains the franchise’s charm. However, touch controls and erratic AI temper the experience, making it an overall average port compared with versions on other platforms.
