Quick summary
Managing more than a handful of open applications can quickly get chaotic. WinSplit Revolution is a lightweight utility that lives in the system tray and helps you arrange open windows so you make full use of your desktop without constantly reshuffling and overlapping windows.
Primary features
- Lives in the notification area so it’s always available without cluttering the taskbar.
- Lets you snap and tile windows automatically to maximize usable screen space.
- Offers a compact pop-up interface for quickly positioning each open application with a click.
- Includes customizable keyboard shortcuts so you can move and resize windows without touching the mouse.
- Offers a "Mosaic" view that tiles every window in an Exposé-style overview.
How it behaves
Clicking the program icon brings up a small control panel that walks you through arranging your open apps. If you prefer keyboard-driven workflows, a set of hotkeys lets you move, resize, and snap windows into predefined zones. The Mosaic/overview mode is particularly handy when you need to see all running windows at once — many users find it useful as a one-click overview.
Recommended alternative
If you’re looking for another free option, consider GridMove — a no-cost utility with a similar focus on grid-based window placement.
Recent fixes and improvements
- Resolved an issue where updates or uninstall attempts could fail because a DLL could not be replaced; a Cleanup Tool is now provided on the download page to help in that situation.
- Fixed the frequent "Impossible to install hooks" warning at startup and restored proper behavior of the “Do not display this message anymore” checkbox.
- Installer and uninstaller now pick the system language automatically; old registry keys left by previous installers have been removed so portable installs no longer alter the registry.
- Corrected a bug that prevented certain settings (for example, the Virtual Numpad position and style) from being saved when the app was closed at the end of a user session. Note: a language-detection dialog was reintroduced to avoid incorrect choices, while the registry key created for portable mode is still removed.
Quick tips
- Try the Mosaic/overview mode as your default if you frequently switch between many windows.
- Learn a handful of the most useful hotkeys — they will save more time than adjusting windows with the mouse.
