Desktop Access for WhatsApp — Free App
WhatsApp Desktop is a complimentary application that brings your WhatsApp account to your computer. It mirrors your conversations, contacts and shared media so you can chat from a larger screen and a full keyboard while keeping your mobile account as the primary identity.
How to Link Your Phone
To sign in, open the desktop app and scan the on-screen QR code with your phone’s camera inside the WhatsApp mobile app. This connection method keeps your account secure, since the desktop session is authorized only after a successful scan from your device.
Important Constraints
Because the desktop client relies on a linked mobile device, your phone must be connected and nearby for the desktop session to remain active. The application currently does not support placing voice or video calls from your computer, although you can still send audio and video files to contacts.
Key Capabilities
- Send audio and video files from your PC to individual contacts or groups
- Real-time synchronization of chats and contact lists between phone and desktop
- Most features available in the browser-based WhatsApp Web are supported in the app
- Secure, QR-based sign-in that protects your account from unauthorized access
- Requires the paired mobile device to be online and within reach for continued use
- No support for outgoing or incoming voice/video calls from the desktop client
Summary
WhatsApp’s desktop app is a convenient way to manage conversations and media on a computer while maintaining the same message history and contacts as your phone. It prioritizes account security with QR code authentication but depends on an active mobile connection and does not yet offer native calling from the desktop.
