Quick summary

Twitter #Music is an app for discovering what people on Twitter are listening to in real time. It links into iTunes, Rdio and Spotify so you can preview or play tracks you find, follow artists directly, and browse curated or social-driven selections.

How it connects to music services

  • Integrates with iTunes, Rdio and Spotify.
  • iTunes provides only 60‑second previews.
  • Rdio and Spotify subscribers can stream full tracks when available.

Getting around the app

The iOS interface is simple and visual. Artists are shown as compact thumbnails that include their @handle. Tap a thumbnail to expand the card, then press the play icon to preview or play a track. Inside the expanded card you can follow the artist by tapping the Twitter logo. Move between different views by swiping sideways or by choosing options from the top dropdown. A search field lets you find specific performers to follow or listen to.

Discovery options (filters)

  • Suggested — recommendations based on artists you already follow.
  • NowPlaying — tracks that people you follow are sharing or listening to right now.

  • Emerging — newer or rising artists to help find less mainstream music.
  • Popular — currently trending or most-played acts.

What it does well

The app is visually attractive and inviting: neat artist tiles make browsing straightforward. The Popular and Emerging views are helpful for quickly spotting mainstream hits and up‑and‑comers. If you have an Rdio or Spotify subscription, the ability to play full tracks makes the app a practical discovery tool.

Where it falls short

Recommendation filters are inconsistent. Suggested relies on your existing follows, so it’s weak unless you already follow many artists. Following lots of performers to improve suggestions can clutter your normal Twitter feed. #NowPlaying simply reflects the listening habits of your network, which may not match your tastes—especially if you use Twitter primarily for work. There’s no genre filter, so you can’t easily exclude styles you dislike as you can on other discovery services.

Bottom line

Twitter #Music looks good and is easy to use, and it can expand your musical horizons—particularly if you can stream full songs via Rdio or Spotify. However, its recommendation logic is limited and offers less precise filtering than dedicated music discovery platforms.
