Quick overview of the one-click converter
There are a lot of YouTube-to-iTunes utilities on the market, and TubiTunes follows the familiar pattern: pick a video, drop it onto the app and it attempts to convert. The program accepts links or files from popular video sites such as YouTube and DailyMotion and begins the conversion once you add the item to its window.
How conversion is handled
By default TubiTunes targets iPhone-compatible files, but it also supports other Apple devices. You can pick the output format from the app’s settings; available device targets include:
- Apple TV
- iPod
- iPhone (default)
Drag a video onto the interface and the app initiates the conversion automatically.
Preferences and iTunes support
The preferences let you choose where converted files are saved. One convenient option is to have TubiTunes create a dedicated iTunes playlist for files it produces, keeping those tracks separated from your regular library.
Problems I encountered
In my tests the app failed to convert every clip I attempted — none of the videos completed successfully. Conversion speed can be slow, and there is no progress bar or time estimate, which makes it hard to tell how long a job will take or whether it has stalled.
