Trailmakers: Pioneers puts you in the role of an engineer-turned-explorer in a large physics-based sandbox. You start the Pioneers campaign as a member of the Trailmakers, an elite exploration guild tasked with protecting the peaceful frog settlement of Gregory from the invading BOTNAKs. The core appeal is designing custom vehicles from modular blocks and testing them across varied landscapes.

Beginning the campaign

You are given just a handful of starter pieces and asked to craft your first vehicle. Early on you’ll learn how each component influences mass distribution, balance, and aerodynamic behavior. A single design flaw—like oversized wheels attached without counterweight—can send your machine tumbling down a slope. Completing missions unlocks more parts, gradually expanding what you can build.

Basic construction essentials

• Chassis: the frame that ties everything together and determines basic footprint and durability
• Engines: provide forward and reverse propulsion and affect fuel and thrust characteristics
• Wheels: different sizes and types change traction, rolling resistance, and handling

For open-ended play, five sandbox maps let you build without constraints and freely test radical designs.

Multiplayer and replay value

Bring friends to race, brawl, or exchange blueprints—multiplayer amplifies the fun and creativity. Bear in mind that the learning curve can be steep for absolute beginners, and some players may find mission repetition after many playthroughs reduces novelty.
