TodayFlights for Mac download

Free, smart flight-tracking app

TodayFlights is a mobile application that lets users follow airline flights in real time. It provides up-to-the-minute departure and arrival times, a visual flight path, and live delay updates so you always know a flight’s current status.

What it shows live

Estimated and actual departure and arrival times
Ongoing delay notifications as they happen
The aircraft’s planned route and current position

Ways to find a flight

By destination city
By airport name
By flight number

Map and in-flight progress

A built-in map visualizes the plane’s journey and updates as the aircraft moves. The route line and position indicator make it easy to see where the flight is en route and how far it has left to travel.

How it compares to larger services

This app is essentially a streamlined alternative to full-featured aviation trackers like FlightAware. It focuses on the essentials — timely status, route visualization, and straightforward search options — without extra complexity.

Little Navmap

Little Navmap is a full-featured flight-planning and navigation application that combines chart viewing, route design, and live navigation in one tool, suitable for newcomers and advanced users. It offers an interactive map with clear route overlays and flight playback, real-time navigation with position tracking and ETAs, route-creation tools with automatic procedures and airway routing, extensive airport and chart data, flight-plan editing and management, flight-data analysis and export, and a clean, approachable interface. It is free to download and use. The program integrates with external navigation and simulation tools for position input and log exchange, making it useful for standalone planning or integrated setups. Its audience ranges from casual sim pilots who want easy planning and visualization, to enthusiasts needing accurate charts and airport details, to advanced users seeking detailed analysis; alternatives include web-based planning and charting services, automated dispatch tools, quick-reference guides, and chart subscription services.

AeroWeather

A flight-focused weather tool that provides live updates and aviation-tailored displays and data formats to simplify pre‑flight planning and briefing, comparable to services like FlightAware. It supports aviation-specific reports such as AWOS station feeds, TAF forecasts and METAR observations and is designed for pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Features include multiple sharing options for briefings and updates, configurable parameters (wind thresholds, temperature units, flight‑rule filters, airport watchlists) and additional readouts like altitude and barometric pressure. A premium paid option is available, and all information is aggregated from authoritative official sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.

X-Plane

X-Plane is a flight simulator that emphasizes realistic flight dynamics and carefully modeled aircraft to deliver an immersive piloting experience. It offers a range of scenarios from easy recreational flights to structured training missions, a clean interface for selecting aircraft and settings, deep customization of weather, time of day, and aircraft types, and highly detailed visuals and aerodynamic behavior. Support for third-party add-ons and plugins lets users expand functionality with additional aircraft, scenery, and instrumentation. The simulator suits hobbyists seeking an engaging recreation of flight as well as more serious enthusiasts looking for a realistic practice environment; it’s accessible to beginners while still providing depth for experienced users. As a non-aviation alternative, The Sims 4 provides a simulation focused on life and world-building rather than piloting.

Flightgear

FlightGear is a free, open-source, community-driven flight simulator that offers realistic flight dynamics, a wide selection of aircraft, detailed terrain and weather, and extensive customization through user-created add-ons. It models real-world procedures and systems, making it suitable for both casual sightseeing and advanced pilot training, including multiplayer sessions and aircraft-specific practice. Volunteers continually expand the simulator with new aircraft, sceneries, and features, so the experience evolves over time without paywalls. For a very different simulation style, life-simulation games (e.g., The Sims) provide character-driven, creative gameplay rather than aviation-focused realism.

Volanta

Volanta is a free application that collects personal flight information into a single view and provides live status updates, delay alerts, gate and timing details, and a simple interface for tracking departures, arrivals, and multiple itineraries at once. By centralizing flight data and sending timely notifications, it reduces the need to check multiple sources, helps travelers adapt to schedule changes, saves time, and lowers stress. A lightweight free alternative to consider is Prefs Editor.

FlyWings Flight Simulator 2017

FlyWings Flight Simulator 2017 is a hands-on, realistic flight simulator that puts you in the first-person cockpit with a large roster of modern aircraft and an emphasis on authentic handling and detailed visuals. It features over 2,000 missions across nine distinct city environments, offering varied navigation, takeoff and landing challenges and a mission-driven experience rather than a pure sandbox. For a contrasting, more open-ended and life-simulation style of play, consider The Sims 4, which focuses on character and home management instead of aviation mechanics.

X-Plane 12

X-Plane 12 is a commercial flight simulator focused on realistic, physics-based flight dynamics and detailed cockpit systems, designed to reproduce the challenge of actual flying. It offers extensive environmental controls (clouds, visibility, temperature, precipitation, surface and sea state) that affect aircraft performance, and introduces several fully modeled aircraft across fighters, business jets, helicopters and general aviation types with refined internal and external visuals. Visually it advances the prior release in an evolutionary way rather than a dramatic leap, while performance and optimization have been improved to yield better frame rates for many users. The simulator is aimed at users who value systems fidelity and true-to-life handling; potential buyers should weigh the incremental graphical and aircraft additions against the cost.

Navigraph Charts

Navigraph Charts provides flight-simulation users with professional Jeppesen navigation charts in a simple, easy-to-use interface. It offers enroute charts, departure plates (including SID details and climb profiles), and approach procedures (ILS, RNAV, and visual), plus a fast airport search and automatic updates to keep procedures current. The product is aimed at virtual pilots of all experience levels who want to increase realism during planning and in‑cockpit reference. A commercial alternative, RightClickMP3, offers similar charting functionality under a paid license.

LogTen Pilot Log

LogTen Pilot Log, developed by Coradine Aviation Systems, is a free utility application for logging and managing pilot flight records.

Stunt Island

Stunt Island blends aerial piloting with do-it-yourself moviemaking: plan and perform stunt flights and direct short film sequences on a sprawling island set that includes an aircraft carrier, canyon, oil rig and cityscape. It pairs realistic flight handling with a built-in editing suite for assembling footage with effects and sound, plus scene-authoring tools — camera placement, prop setup and programmable triggers — that let scenes react dynamically to player actions. It’s ideal for players who enjoy flight simulation and creative camera/editing control, combining piloting challenges with hands-on filmmaking. If you want a different take on mixing simulation and creative systems, consider CraftCraft — Fantasy Merchant Simulator.

INAV Configurator

A light, free utility for configuring INAV-based flight controllers that provides a graphical interface to change flight modes, calibrate sensors, modify controller parameters, view live telemetry and charts, and tune PID and other flight settings to refine stability and responsiveness. Common uses include verifying sensor calibration and orientation, selecting and fine-tuning flight modes, iterating on PID and responsiveness settings, and monitoring performance during test flights. Practical tips: back up configurations before major changes, test adjustments in a safe, controlled environment, and confirm improvements with live data after each incremental change.

Navigraph Simlink

Navigraph Simlink is a free utility that connects a Navigraph account with flight simulation software to provide up-to-date navigation data and charts, streamlining flight planning and improving in-simulation navigation accuracy. It automates synchronization of navigation resources and makes account linking straightforward. The app is user-friendly and aimed at flight-sim hobbyists and virtual pilots, helping reduce the risk of outdated chart data and improving route planning. An alternative tool to evaluate is 3DMF Viewer.
