Free image and video compressor

TinyPic is a free utility for shrinking photos and compressing videos so they’re easier to send or upload. It’s designed for quick batch processing, a minimal learning curve, and straightforward sharing. The app reduces file sizes dramatically while keeping reasonable image quality and creates shareable links for the results.

Main capabilities

  • Batch processing with drag-and-drop or file-browse support
  • Output files are saved as new files; originals remain untouched
  • Built-in link generation for sharing resized media
  • Preset export dimensions for quick selection:
  • 1600x1200
  • 1024x768
  • 800x600
  • 640x480
  • Compatible with many common formats, for example:
  • JPG
  • PNG
  • BMP
  • GIF
  • EPS

Image resizing details

TinyPic automatically reduces picture sizes—often down to about 1/20th of the original file size—so you can attach many more images to an email or message. The interface is simple: add images, pick a preset size, and start the conversion. A file queue shows processing status for each item.

You can choose an “extra small” option for even smaller files, but be aware that this will noticeably reduce image quality. The app does not let you enter a custom pixel size; you must pick from the available presets.

Video compression rules

The app can also compress video files so they fit common attachment and upload limits. There are a few restrictions to keep in mind:

  • High-definition clips are allowed but must be five minutes or shorter and under 500 MB
  • Standard-definition clips should not exceed 500 MB; anything longer than 15 minutes will be cut down to a 15-minute length
  • A variety of uncommon video formats are accepted

When a video exceeds the permitted duration, TinyPic will truncate it to the maximum supported length.

Saving, organization, and sharing

After processing, resized files are saved separately so the originals remain intact. You can choose how to store originals—place them in the same folder, move them to a dedicated folder, or create a subfolder for archival. Each completed file also receives a shareable link to make distribution easier.

Performance and limitations

TinyPic is lightweight and responsive: it processes items quickly, uses minimal system resources, and is generally stable. Its advantages include speed and reliability, but it’s focused strictly on resizing/compression—there are no photo-editing tools (crop, color adjustments, filters, etc.). Also, it lacks the option to specify a custom output dimension.

Alternatives worth checking

If you need more flexibility or editing features, consider trying Fast Image Resizer (free) or similar utilities that provide custom output sizes and basic image adjustments.
