Quick summary and requirements
The Sims™ 4 Get to Work! is an expansion pack that lets you actively follow your Sims during their shifts, or leave the corporate life behind to build and run your own shops. It requires The Sims™ 4 base game to play. If you prefer urban-themed content, consider The Sims™ 4: City Living as an alternative expansion.
Career routes you can play through
Take your Sim out of the house and into a workplace you can actually visit. New active careers let you participate directly in daily duties and emergencies:
- Scientist — work in a sprawling lab, run experiments on plants, metals and alien samples, prototype gadgets, and investigate extraterrestrial life.
- Detective — patrol streets, examine crime scenes, gather evidence and interview witnesses, then follow up at the police station with interrogations and casework.
- Doctor — staff a clinic, diagnose and treat patients (including surgery), and make house calls to care for sick Sims across town.
Run your own business: retail and entrepreneurship
If a structured career isn’t for you, you can become an entrepreneur and open a retail venue on a purchased lot. Managing a business requires attention to several fronts:
- Keep staff satisfied and productive so customers receive good service.
- Maintain stock levels and handle sales—produce items or sell merchandise from Build Mode.
- Present the shop well (cleanliness, layout, essentials like a bathroom and even a bed) to encourage foot traffic and longer visits.
Building a profitable enterprise can be rewarding but slow; many players experience setbacks before seeing returns, and a failed shop can force a Sim back into employment.
How workdays and workplaces function
Workplaces in this pack differ from ordinary public lots: they’re linked to a Sim’s job and appear on the map only when that Sim is scheduled to work. Gameplay at a job resembles the game’s appointment system — timed objectives, progress toward promotions, and occasional unexpected incidents that disrupt the shift. Performing well earns promotions and unlocks new career content; experience smooths the learning curve.
Businesses you create are accessible anytime and feel more like running a streamlined tycoon-style operation: buying or creating stock, arranging the store, and interacting with customers and employees.
What this expansion adds to the game
Get to Work! deepens The Sims 4 with:
- Hands-on careers and interactive workplaces.
- The ability to build and manage shops on dedicated lots.
- New objects, lab and clinic locations, and job-specific events (including alien-related storylines).
Compared to lighter packs, this expansion introduces substantial new gameplay systems that shift focus away from home life and toward a Sim’s professional ambitions.
Final thoughts
Get to Work! noticeably changes how time is spent in The Sims 4 by putting careers and business ownership front and center. The active careers are engaging and varied, while shop management can be immersive but occasionally slow and challenging. Overall, it’s a welcome expansion that broadens play possibilities and hints at even richer updates to come.
