Game Snapshot
The Devil's Due is a Windows title that combines poker-style card play with tactical, turn-based confrontations. You face off against a roster of infernal foes one-on-one, and the ranking of your poker hand determines how much damage you inflict. Each enemy brings unique abilities that change the flow of combat, so every duel feels distinct.
Gameplay Mechanics
Combat revolves around building poker hands: stronger hands deal more damage or trigger better effects. Beyond standard draws and bets, the game lets you use a range of illicit maneuvers to tilt the odds in your favor. These tactics can turn the tide quickly but come with consequences — enemies grow more suspicious the more you cheat.
Illicit Moves and Their Risks
- Swap or hide cards mid-battle to create better combinations.
- Temporarily inflate card values to strengthen a hand.
- Directly interfere with an opponent’s cards to disrupt their strategy. Using these tricks raises an enemy suspicion meter, which increases the likelihood of penalties or enemy countermeasures.
Progression and Roguelike Elements
Each run is structured like a roguelike: deaths are setbacks that still grant long-term gains. After each defeat you can unlock permanent upgrades, acquire new cheat cards, and discover potent relics that alter future attempts. This encourages trying different builds and experimenting with riskier cheating strategies.
Route Selection with Tarot
At the start of every stage you draw tarot cards that define the route ahead — which encounters you’ll face, when you can visit shops, and what special challenges might appear. These cards force you to adapt your deck and cheating choices to survive deeper into Hell.
Objective and Strategy
The core loop asks you to balance bold trickery with caution: rely on cheats to win immediate fights, but manage enemy suspicion and long-term upgrades to reach redemption. Thoughtful deck construction, chosen relics, and careful use of tricks are key to mastering the descent.
