Overview and premise
Tom returns in a new instalment designed for Android devices. In this sequel the mischievous cat has upgraded from alley life to an apartment, and the familiar gimmick remains: Tom repeats back whatever you say in a comically altered voice. The game also introduces a canine companion, Ben, who pops in to rile Tom up.
Fresh interaction mechanics
The core hook is unchanged — speak to Tom and he mimics you — but the app adds several new ways to provoke reactions from both characters. Special buttons trigger short skits that change how Tom repeats phrases (for example, with his nose pinched after a prank). Notable new triggers include:
- Feathers: Ben smacks Tom with a pillow full of feathers, producing a flurry of sneezes and laughs.
- Phone: Tom pulls out the original Talking Tom app and starts playing with it, creating a meta gag.
- Bag: Ben jumps in and pops a paper bag, startling Tom.
- Fart: Pressing this will make Ben pass gas, which prompts Tom to pinch his nose while repeating words.
Mini-game: stair-climbing runner
An endless runner-style mini-game is included. You guide Tom up a seemingly endless staircase, collecting coins and grabbing time bonuses to keep the run alive. It’s entertaining for short bursts but fairly basic in visuals and depth compared with dedicated mobile runners.
Actions, recording and sharing
Besides the button-triggered jokes, you can interact directly with Tom — petting him causes purring, and slapping his face produces other animated responses. The app also allows you to record short videos of your interactions and share them with friends, turning your antics into little clips.
Customization and progression
Coins earned during play (or bought via in-app purchases) let you dress Tom in outfits and buy accessories. You can also place a few decorative objects around his apartment, though the selection of décor is limited. Customization provides a reason to keep playing, but the options are somewhat sparse.
Final thoughts
Talking Tom Cat 2 is fun and silly, and it does a good job of extending the simple repeat-and-react formula. However, the novelty wanes after a while, and the added mini-game and customization features don’t add a great deal of lasting depth. If you enjoyed the original for quick laughs, this sequel delivers more of the same with a few amusing extras.
