Product snapshot
T3 CRP-5 is an iPhone app created as a teaching aid for aviation students. It virtualizes a classic CRP flight computer so cadets and trainee pilots can practice and solve navigational problems on their devices. The tool is intended to complement ground school instruction by converting manual computations into an interactive digital workflow.
Who benefits
This application is aimed at student pilots, flight cadets and instructors who need a portable, accurate way to practice flight-planning math. It’s particularly useful during classroom sessions and self-study when hands-on practice with real flight computers isn’t feasible.
Core capabilities
- Calculate the True Heading Index from inputs such as magnetic variation and wind correction.
- Work out magnetic variation and convert between true and magnetic references.
- Estimate wind drift and compute wind correction angles for course tracking.
- Determine True Airspeed (TAS) given indicated airspeed and conditions.
- Solve time-to-travel and elapsed-time problems for route planning.
- Compute distance along a track from groundspeed and time.
- Derive groundspeed and related speed/distance/time relationships for navigation.
How it improves learning
By replacing manual dials with an interactive interface, T3 CRP-5 helps students focus on concept mastery rather than repetitive arithmetic. The app accelerates problem-solving, allowing learners to test more scenarios in less time and visualize the effects of wind, variation and speed changes on headings and track.
Origin and authorship
T3 CRP-5 was developed by the Theoretical Knowledge Instructors in collaboration with the Research & Innovation Department of T3 Aviation Academy. The teams designed the app to meet the needs of modern aviation education and to support virtual learning initiatives in ground school.
