Game snapshot
Soulstone Survivors is a single-player, top-down roguelike action title that mixes fast-paced combat with deep RPG progression. The game is premium and focuses on arcade-style, bullet-hell encounters while letting players develop powerful skills and continuously improve their arsenal. It’s easy to pick up the basics, but getting truly proficient requires careful planning and skill.
Customization and core systems
The title merges roguelike randomness with layered RPG mechanics to produce a compact yet rich action experience. Players can shape their builds through a wide variety of options and are encouraged to experiment rather than follow a single optimal path.
- Extensive skill and passive options: roughly 200 active abilities, hundreds of passive modifiers and runes, and a large skill tree advanced using Soulstones — all designed to support varied playstyles.
- Classes and loadouts: a roster of 15 distinct classes, each with four weapon types (each weapon granting two special attacks), plus three class-unique skills and several universal abilities available to all characters.
- Progression loop and risk-reward: currency is earned by defeating foes and breaking objects; raising the curse level increases rewards and speeds progression but also ramps up the challenge.
New players will find depth without needing to chase meta builds, though repeated successes often reveal a handful of dominant combinations.
Update — Master of Machines
The “Master of Machines” expansion introduces new tools and systems to broaden tactical options and long-term progression.
- Progression and upgrades: the Blacksmith has been overhauled with fresh techniques that let players push crafted gear past its former limits, opening new endgame upgrade paths.
- New Void Hunter: the Engineer is a mechanically focused character who deploys turrets and robotic companions, brings conveniences like near-endless ammo and area-destruction tools, and shifts the game’s tactical possibilities.
- Feedback and balance features: a clearer damage breakdown now surfaces healing and passive contributions; rune behaviors and other mechanics were adjusted; and polish items like new sounds, visual tweaks, menu alerts, and an achievements tab were added.
A suite of bug fixes and performance improvements accompanies the update, addressing issues such as skill visibility bugs and framerate drops.
Balance and endgame notes
While the design encourages variety, certain weapon, rune, and ability pairings outperform others, which can funnel players toward similar builds. Some classes naturally fare better in high-difficulty runs; although every class can be viable, tackling the toughest maps with maximum curses is noticeably harder for a subset of characters. These balance quirks can make late-game runs feel more repetitive unless you deliberately rotate builds and experiment.
Final impressions
Soulstone Survivors delivers a tightly focused, action-heavy roguelike with a lot of build depth and customization. Despite some balance problems and a tendency for a few meta approaches to dominate, the gameplay loop, variety of abilities, and ongoing upgrades — especially after the Master of Machines additions — make it rewarding for both newcomers and veteran action-RPG fans.
