SketchUp Viewer, developed by Trimble, is a free application that lets people open and print SketchUp models without needing the full SketchUp authoring program. It’s designed to give recipients a faithful view of a design while preventing any accidental changes to the original file.

How sharing works

Designers prepare and lock the views in SketchUp before sharing. They can set up multiple camera positions, zoom levels, and saved angles so viewers can easily jump between the most important perspectives. On the desktop viewer, these are selectable via tabs or the camera menu. For structure-focused inspections, designers can enable wireframe mode or expose hidden geometry prior to distribution so viewers see exactly what the designer intends.

Exploring models and preparing prints

The viewer offers an immersive way to inspect models, letting users simulate walking around or inspecting nearby elements with the Look Around tool. When printing, check display and shadow configuration to ensure the output matches the intended presentation. Note that prints can be produced from the app, but exporting a view directly as an image file for embedding in other documents or webpages is not provided.

Known limitations

• No in-app editing: viewers cannot modify the original model.
• Image export is not supported; you cannot save a camera view as an image for external use.
• There is no built-in documentation or annotation tool for creating project notes inside the viewer.

• OS: Windows 10/11 or macOS recent versions (64-bit).
• Processor: Quad-core, 2.8 GHz or faster.
• Memory: 8 GB RAM or more.
• Storage: SSD with ample free space for models.
• Graphics: Discrete GPU with 1 GB VRAM supporting modern OpenGL/DirectX.

• Memory: 4 GB RAM.
• Storage: Some free disk space for installation and files.

Summary
