• Enter your phone number and confirm it with the verification code sent to you; the code is usually applied automatically.
• Supply a first name for your profile and choose a four-digit PIN to protect stored data. Note: the PIN isn’t required to open the app, but it’s needed for data recovery—enable PIN reminders so you don’t forget.

Navigation and configuration

The interface centers on your recent conversations. Main controls are easy to find:

• Quick actions in the lower-right corner let you start a chat or open the camera.
• Your profile and account settings are accessible from the top-left; a menu on the top-right offers additional actions such as creating a group, marking messages as read, or inviting people.
• A search box sits beside the menu for locating chats and contacts.

In Settings you can fine-tune behavior and appearance. Important options include:

Signal is a strong alternative to popular messaging platforms when privacy and simplicity are priorities.
