Game snapshot
Sifu is a single-player, Kung Fu-inspired action title from Sloclap. You control a young martial-arts student bent on avenging the murder of their family by tracking down and confronting five deadly assassins. The experience emphasizes hand-to-hand combat and cinematic, movie-like encounters rather than multiplayer or deep RPG customization.
Story and core loop
The plot centers on one fighter’s quest for revenge. You progress through levels confronting groups of thugs and working your way toward each of the five boss assassins. Death is possible and consequential: a mystical pendant revives you, but each resurrection noticeably ages the character. With every rebirth the fighter becomes older and more seasoned, altering stats and the feel of combat as you learn from repeated attempts.
Combat, movement, and style
Sifu’s hand-to-hand system leans on Pak Mei Kung Fu techniques, with animations and moves designed to echo authentic martial-arts sequences. The game encourages smart use of the environment — scaling ledges, throwing improvised objects, and grabbing temporary weapons — while presenting challenging enemies that can overwhelm you if you’re careless. There is no multi-style move customization; the progression comes from mastering and refining the single discipline as your character develops.
Arenas expansion and platform launch
Sloclap announced a free Arenas expansion to be released in tandem with Sifu’s debut on additional platforms. Initially available on the Epic Games Store, PS4, and PS5, Sifu expands its availability to Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S with a launch date of March 28. The Arenas update brings new content and competitive scenarios designed to extend playtime beyond the main story.
What the Arenas pack adds
- Time Attack: Race against the clock while clearing a gauntlet of enemies as fast as possible.
- Manhunt: Seek out and eliminate a specific, well-guarded target amid hostile forces.
- Capture: Secure and defend a marked zone against waves of opponents.
- Survival: Endure increasingly difficult enemy waves until you are defeated.
- Performance: Aim for flawless, stylish runs that maximize score and technique.
The expansion also includes nine distinct arena settings and 45 extra challenges, providing roughly 10 hours of additional gameplay variety.
Who should play
If you appreciate Chinese martial-arts cinema and deliberate, skill-based brawlers, Sifu delivers a stylish, focused experience that captures the pacing and choreography of classic kung-fu films. Though it lacks multiplayer and broad move-customization, the game offers satisfying, authentic-feeling combat and a memorable resurrection/aging mechanic that changes how each attempt plays out.
