Quick summary
Amazon’s Send to Kindle app makes transferring documents to Kindle devices simple and painless. Instead of tethering your reader to a computer or emailing files to a device-specific address, you can use a small desktop utility to push documents directly to any registered Kindle.
How to use the app
- Choose which registered device(s) should receive the file.
- Drag your document(s) into the Send to Kindle window.
- Confirm the send and let the app deliver the content.
Supported devices and delivery methods
During our tests the app detected both Kindle e-readers and registered Kindle apps on mobile devices (for example, iPhone and iPad). You can send items directly over Wi‑Fi or use Amazon’s Whispernet 3G delivery network when available.
Costs and timing
- Sending data via Whispernet is metered; Amazon charges approximately $0.15 per megabyte within the United States.
- Smaller files typically appear on the target device almost instantly. Large files, especially PDFs that require conversion to Kindle format, can take longer to process and deliver.
Storage and recovery
Amazon also stores the sent files in your cloud library, so if you delete a document from a device you can re-download it later from Amazon’s servers.
Final impressions
Overall, the app provides a streamlined, user-friendly way to get documents onto Kindle hardware and apps without the previous hassle of cables or email workarounds. It’s especially handy for quickly moving articles, reports, or PDFs to any of your registered Kindle endpoints.
