Quick summary of the app
Samsung Notes is a free mobile productivity app from Samsung Electronics that combines typed text, voice memos, audio tracks, and images into single notes. It includes multiple brush types and a color mixer for sketching or painting, lets you export drawings directly to PEN.UP, and supports importing from legacy S Note and Memo files. Notes can be shared to social networks or kept private on your device.
Starting a new note
To create a note, open the app and tap the compose icon at the bottom of the main screen. The primary input options appear along the top; use the icons there to switch between modes such as:
- Voice recordings
- Image insertion
- Freehand drawing
- Handwritten input
- Keyboard typing
Tap the mode you want and begin adding content immediately.
Locking notes and privacy settings
You can add a password to keep selected notes private:
- Open the app’s More options menu and choose the Lock Notes option to set a global password.
- While viewing any individual note, open More options and select Lock to secure that note.
After a lock is set, accessing secured notes requires the password you created.
Drawing, writing and editing tools
Samsung Notes offers flexible tools for pen-and-paper style input:
- Brush and pen controls let you pick type, width, and color with a built-in mixer.
- An eraser removes strokes cleanly.
- A selection tool lets you isolate an area of your note to move, resize, or edit it independently.
These tools make it easy to sketch, annotate screenshots, or combine typed and handwritten content.
Importing and syncing your data
If you have older notes saved in S Note or Memo, you can bring them into Samsung Notes:
- Use Smart Switch or sign in with your Samsung account to transfer files.
- From the app, open More options > Settings > Import data to begin an account-based import.
If you enable Samsung Cloud (by logging into your Samsung account), your notes will sync automatically across your registered devices.
Saving, sharing and exporting
Notes can be exported and shared in multiple ways:
- Share full notes to social platforms directly from the app.
- Push sketches to PEN.UP for wider display and feedback.
- Export individual pages or entire notes as images or other supported formats for backup or distribution.
Why you might prefer this app
Samsung Notes is a capable alternative if you want more than basic note-taking. It combines text, audio, and rich drawing tools in one place, supports easy import from older Samsung note apps, and offers straightforward sharing and cloud sync — making it a solid choice for students, professionals, and creative users.
