Samarkan — Arabic-inspired TrueType face
Samarkan is a free TrueType typeface from Titivillus Foundry that gives Latin characters an aesthetic similar to Arabic calligraphy. The designer reworked Roman letters with elegant strokes and terminals so the result complements layouts and lettering with a Middle Eastern motif. It’s intended for use across a variety of design and publishing contexts.
How to add it to your computer
Download the distribution archive that contains the .ttf file, extract it, then open the font file and choose the install option provided by your operating system. After installation the font becomes available to any application that uses locally installed fonts, so you can apply it in programs that accept custom fonts.
Practical uses
- Slide decks and visual presentations where an Arabic-flavored look is desired
- Sharing the font with collaborators who want the same typographic style
- Website mockups and page designs that call for a stylized Latin/Arabic appearance
- Document layout and text styling in word processors or desktop publishing apps
Known limitations
While Samarkan works well for decorative and themed text, it does not include every possible glyph; certain characters and symbols may be missing or unsupported. Test any special characters you plan to use before committing to a final design.
Other options to consider
