Root — A Digital Reimagining of Woodland Warfare
Root is a digital version of the popular tabletop strategy game that casts 2–4 players into a contest for dominance across a sprawling forest. Blending asymmetric faction play with tactical combat and area control, the game turns the woodland into a dynamic battleground where each side pursues very different paths to victory.
Key Factions and Their Objectives
- Eyrie Dynasties — Once rulers of the skies, these proud bird clans are driven to reclaim their former prominence under a newly crowned leader, enforcing rigid, aggressive tactics to expand their hold.
- Vagabond Wanderers — Independent rogues who move through the forest’s paths, forming occasional alliances or rivalries; they specialize in mobility, quests, and one-on-one interactions with other players.
- Woodland Alliance — A coalition of smaller creatures who build support and resources quietly, using rallies and sympathizers to resist domination and topple larger powers.
- Marquise de Cat — The industrious cat regime that currently controls the woods, exploiting its resources and fortifying positions to monopolize wealth and influence.
The Storyline
The game’s narrative centers on the Marquise de Cat’s seizure of the woodland and their campaign to extract its riches. In response, the forest’s inhabitants organize: the Alliance raises resistance, Vagabonds navigate the contested routes for profit or aid, while the Eyrie seek to restore their ancient empire. Together, these interlocking plots create a richly textured struggle that shapes each session.
How the Competition Unfolds
Players must choose a faction and pursue its unique strategy—whether that’s building infrastructure, fomenting rebellion, staging military campaigns, or exploiting diplomacy and opportunism. Victory comes from leveraging your faction’s strengths while anticipating and countering opponents’ plans.
