Overview of remotebox for Pioneer XDJ-R1
remotebox is a wireless control application created for use with Pioneer's XDJ-R1 controller. It enables DJs to pair an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with the XDJ-R1 and manage many of the unit’s performance functions from the mobile device, expanding flexibility during sets.
Supported platforms and notes
- Compatible with iOS 6, iOS 7, and iOS 8.
- Functionality on iOS 4.3 and iOS 5 is uncertain and may not be supported.
Key capabilities
- Send MIDI commands to DJ software from the mobile device.
- Trigger HOT CUEs and operate the SAMPLER features available on the XDJ-R1.
- Choose beats directly for the AUTO BEAT LOOP feature.
- Manipulate effects with an on-screen XY pad.
- Build and manage playlists on the go.
- Edit track information and settings using the larger touchscreen for a more comfortable workflow.
- Browse and pick tracks stored on a USB drive connected to the XDJ-R1.
- Take remote control of playback and basic device functions from the paired iOS device.
Performance advantages
Using remotebox lets performers work from a distance while still accessing important tools — cue points, loops, effects, and song selection — from a handheld device. The larger display of an iPad in particular simplifies editing and playlist management compared with the controller’s smaller interface.
