Release and premise
Rayman Legends arrived on PC as the follow-up to Rayman Origins, only a year after its predecessor. Ubisoft returns with another colorful platform adventure that has you searching for Rayman and his companions across a variety of imaginative realms.
Characters and setting
Although Rayman lacks conventional arms and legs, that doesn’t stop him from being the franchise’s lovable protagonist. He lives in the dreamlike Glade of Dreams, and in this episode he must once again set off to protect his world. Expect to see familiar faces and a few over-the-top characters—yes, even an absurdly buff penguin makes an appearance.
Level structure and collectibles
Levels are grouped into themed worlds—underwater, medieval, Latin-inspired stages, and more—each with a distinct atmosphere and visual identity. Stages are accessed through paintings that serve as portals to those worlds. Ubisoft expanded the offering from the previous title, adding bonus stages, additional unlockable worlds, and a variety of small items to gather (scratch cards, tiny critters, etc.), which extend replay value considerably.
Gameplay basics and difficulty
The controls are approachable, so newcomers can get comfortable quickly. The game’s design balances accessibility with challenge: most players will progress easily, yet some levels are punishingly tricky. If a stage becomes frustrating, you can move on and return later without losing momentum.
Cooperative design and side activities
Multiplayer is a major highlight. Rayman Legends supports up to four players locally or online and embraces asymmetric roles: not every player needs to control a main character—some can manipulate platforms, cut ropes, or otherwise influence the environment to help or hinder play. This lets less experienced players join in and still contribute. For a change of pace, try the frantic mini-game “Kung Foot,” where teams brawl for possession of a living ball to score goals.
Art direction and audio
The visuals are outstanding for a 2D title: the engine brings hand-drawn assets to life with fluid, cartoon-like animation and richly detailed backdrops. Boss encounters and level set pieces are especially striking. The soundtrack is tightly integrated with gameplay—music shifts to match what’s happening on screen, and some stages are designed around musical cues. The compositions range from gentle to bombastic, and musical levels are particular standouts, especially in multiplayer.
Final thoughts
Rayman Legends is an exceptional platformer on PC: polished controls, inventive multiplayer, gorgeous presentation, and a memorable soundtrack. The main caveat is how closely it follows its predecessor; at times it feels like an expanded version of Rayman Origins rather than a radical reinvention. Still, its quality makes that resemblance easy to forgive, though fans may worry about the possibility of yearly, minimally different sequels. Overall, this is highly recommended for both longtime fans and newcomers.
