Reimagined classic on Xash3D
This remake restores the rapid, brutal first-person action of the original while running on the Xash3D engine. It keeps the old-school intensity but benefits from engine compatibility and a handful of modern refinements.
Map layout and mission goal
Play through more than twenty distinct maps organized into four episodes. Each stage tasks you with fighting through hazards and enemies to reach the level’s teleport exit and move on to the next challenge.
Opponents you'll encounter
- Chainsaw-toting maniacs — brutal, close-range aggressors that rush you without hesitation.
- Fast attack dogs — quick flankers that pressure your movement and force rapid reactions.
- Standard foot soldiers — the common ranged foes who provide steady opposition throughout levels.
Weapons and combat approach
- Rocket launcher — powerful splash damage weapon that excels at clearing groups and disrupting enemy formations.
- Double-barrel shotgun — devastating at very close range; use it to finish off weakened foes or clear chokepoints.
Combine movement, weapon choice, and map awareness to survive intense firefights and reach each teleport exit.
Alternate pick: Quake 4 (trial)
If you want a different but familiar experience, try the Quake 4 trial.
- Multiplayer matches let you square off against others in online deathmatches to keep the action frenetic.
- Single-player content delivers a focused campaign if you prefer to tackle enemies solo.
Between the free Quake remake’s faithful homage to the original and Quake 4’s competitive modes, fans of classic shooters have solid options for both nostalgia and head-to-head combat.
